Hello, Gilpin List!
I read, with amusement, NeldaP's post from 2003 about several mistakes in records at familysearch.org. (not criticizing them; they were early into the "game" and have added untold information as food for thought)
Nowhere in the several records was a definite date of death. One that was there -- 1799 -- is not possible, because she married in 1799 and had children in the next 24 years.
She moved from Delaware with husband John Smith and several children to Illinois, settling in what became St. Clair County. Several of their children moved to eastern Iowa in the late 1830s, but I believe she and John stayed in Illinois, perhaps living in Lebanon.
John died in 1849 and was married at the time (although not necessarily to Gertrude).
Does anybody have any idea when Gertrude actually died? Did she outlive John?
Many thanks!
Ellen Blackstone
