I'm trying to find out some information about Ann Gilbank, who had an illegitimate daughter, Martha, in 1817. Martha was born in Newton-on-Derwent and was my gggrandmother. Ann may have been the sister of Thomas Gilbank of Wilberfoss. I can't find mention of here except as Martha's mother on the parish record.

My ggrandma was Martha's younger sister. Ann married John Nicholson shortly before Fanny was born. I have some snippets of info about Newton. If you are interested give me a ring on 0161 962 2578. After all we probably share about a finger-full of genes.

Hi
I think Ann Gilbank married Thomas Nicholson? I have the marriage date as 23 November 1822, but I have only a christening date of 1823 for Fanny. Do you have her exact birthday? I should like to know that. Martha's father was, of course, not Thomas Nicholson, but was William Brown - there was a bastardy recognizance against him in 1817. Ann, however, was my great great grandmother, so, yes, we do share some genes! I have visited Newton on Derwent, where the pub doesn't open until 5.00 pm (my sister and I had hopes for at least a pub sandwich at lunchtime) and where none of the houses are older than around 1870/1880, which is sad - but because it is a bit of a backwater it is possibly closer to its past than many villages. I bet our ancestors walked the distinct path across the fields to Allerthorpe at the north end of the village. Although I have no objections to phoning the Land of Manc, I think it might be cheaper to use email, so do email me at
l.alexander@yorksj.ac.uk
and thanks!

I am expanding my family research in Wilberfoss/Newton upon Derwent. My interest (LAZENBY) begins with Thomas BOND who married Elizabeth LAZENBY in 1867. Thomas BOND was a son of Charles BOND & Fanny NICHOLSON. I have a burial of Fanny (Nicholson) BOND in Wilberfoss May 28, 1895. One of Charles BOND & Fanny's daughters was baptised Mary Gilbank BOND. The middle name of GILBANK caught my attention on your posting. Anyways, it is listed on the IGI that Fanny's father was Thomas NICHOLSON. I am not doing any research on the NICHOLSON or GILBANK name, but thought you may be interested in knowing about Fanny NICHOLSON who married Charles BOND.

You probably know that Thomas was the second of that name, the first died soon after birth.
I have a few notes on Thomas/Elizabeth as well as a dead end on Mary Gilbank Bond, who married 'in the Pocklington area' in the second qtr. of 1870.
Perhaps you could e-mail me directly so that I can give you what bits of info I have.

Thank you, Janet. Fanny was the daughter of Ann and Thomas Nicholson, but Ann had an illegitimate daughter born 5 years before her marriage, Martha Gilbank, one of my great great grandmothers, b. 1817 in Newton on Derwent. Martha's father was a William Brown, who was served with a bastardy recognizance at the quarter sessions of 1817. Martha married a John Whitaker of Newton on Derwent and one of their sons, William, was my maternal grandfather's father. Martha died qged 24 of typhus fever, leaving 3 little children (William was only 4 months old).

Hello
The only thing I know about the Bonds is that Fanny Nicholson, the second daughter of my 3 x great grandmother Ann Gilbank, later Ann Nicholson, married into the Bond family. There are a lot of people who do have the Bonds in their tree, though. If you search for Ann Gilbank or Fanny Nicholson on my tree you should be able to make contact with other families researching the Bonds. My ggrandmother, Martha Gilbank, b. 1817, was Ann Gilbank's illegitimate daughter - father William Brown - but that was before she marries Thomas Nicholson. Good luck with your search.
