Re: GILBANK-EAST YORKSHIRE AND POSSIBLY CANADA?
Many apologies - I made a mistake in my last post - my Robert Gilbank's father was in fact Thomas Gilbank c. 1796 both of Newton on Derwent.

Re: GILBANK-EAST YORKSHIRE AND POSSIBLY CANADA?
I think that my Gilbanks may somehow be related to Robert Gilbank born 1816. My greatgrandfather George Wesley Gilbank married Eliza Jane Rainey on July 1, 1882. They were both born in Clark County, Ontario, Canada. I have a Bible belonging to Robert Rainey dated "his Book this 25th of June 1839." This Bible was published in 1831. Robert Rainey most likely is the father of Eliza Jane nee Rainey) Gilbank. This may muddy the waters a little but there must be some connection as we know that Gilbanks are relatively rare.

Re: GILBANK-EAST YORKSHIRE
Hello Very sadly I discovered that my Robert Gilbank, also a farmer, and also born in 1816, died quite young - in Yorkshire, and unmarried, so there is after all no Canadian connection there. I had forgotten that I had posted to find more information. Thank you anyway!

Re: GILBANK-EAST YORKSHIRE AND POSSIBLY CANADA?
Hello Pratai,
I also recognize that Robert Gilbank, who is buried in the McCrea Methodist Cemetery, North-west corner of Hwy. #35 & Durham Region Rd. #20,Municipality of Kawartha Lakes, was the father of George Wesley Gilbank. I have all the information on my tree as you have described.
I have a couple questions since you have the bible. Firstly, I have George's mother's name as Sarah Elizabeth Thirtle (1819-1875). Is this what you have?
Where did George W. die? I believe that he moved to Saskatchewan between 1901 and 1916.
When and where did Elizabeth Jane Rainey die?
I appreciate any help that you can provide.
Michael Clark
