My great grandmother, MARGARET GILBANE, was born 31 Aug 1873. Father was THOMAS GILBANE (a farmer), mother was MARY GLANCY. According to her civil birth registration, the residence is MAILWOOD, in the union of Carrick on Shannon, in the district of Jamestown. Is anyone familiar with MAILWOOD? Would this be the townland? Which catholic churches would be associated with this area?
Also listed, 2 pages earlier, was MARY ANNE GILBANE, father=JAMES GILBANE(a farmer), mother=MARY JONES, of Mailwood, born 2 Jul 1873. If any of this is familiar, please let me know. Colleen conlan@midcoast.com

What is your grandfather's name? Did your grandparents come to the US, have your father, and move back to Leitrim? Where in the US was your father born?

Hi Colleen,
Sorry I didn;t see your post until almost a year later than written.!! I'm very interersted in the Kilbanes of Leitrim. The place "Mailwood" is an actual townland in the Kiltoghert area of Leitrm but it is spelled "Mealwood". I've just uploaded some inscriptions from Jamestown graveyard on this site. Have a look, you'll never know what little gem you'll find. There are a few from Mealwood in the list. Been in touch with Jane Barber and we will keep in touch with whatever bits of info. we can share. I also have a Glancy in my tree who married a John Maguire. John's son, James Joseph Maguire married Elizabeth Gilbane, from Kildorragh, Leitrim. I'm just starting to put it all together so, if we connect, I'll be sure to get in touch. Best of luck in the meantime.
Mary

don't know if I have /haven't replied
My Fathers name was James Francis he was born on the 18/08/1919 I believe the address was E63rd street New York he was baptised at St Vincent Ferrer Lexington Av. and 66th Street sponsors were Andrew Conway and Bridget Keller (I believe) for some reason the certificate is dated July 3rd 1931 how/when my father left the USA is debatable and the reason why also I do have a birth certificate for Annie Gilbane born 1921/2 I presume she died in infancy
