I am seeking info on the parents of Margaret Anne Giggey b Oct 1882 Canada (English). Married Harvey L Nelson, April 24, 1900, in Tracy Mills NB (?). They moved immediately to Presque Isle Maine and bought land and had 12 children. My greatgrandparents.

I show that Margaret (Maggie) might be related to Chris Warren Giggey, but I am not sure if this is a true connection. Does anyone have information about Margarets parents?

Hi Chris,

The Margaret Anne Giggey that I am searching for was my Great Grandmother. She was born in New Brunswick? in Oct of 1882. She married Harvey Nelson April 24, 1900 and moved to Presque Isle, Maine and had 12 children.

You are the first Giggey that I have been able to contact. Is there any chance you have another Margaret (Maggie) Anne in your famly tree? I have had no luck finding her birthplace or ancestors.

Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Elisa

I will have to speak with my Grandmother to see if she knows of a Margaret Giggey. Most Giggey's settled in Fort Fairfield, ME and Limestone, ME. That is where my family is from. The Giggey's are amoung the original settlers of what eventually became Aroostook County Maine. Many of the Giggey's were potato farmers with some farms being immediately on the Canadian and US boarder. For year transversing the border was a matter of crossing anywhere. Another tidbit that may throw off your research is that the nothern boundry of Maine was moved by Treaty (not sure of the year). So ... research of records on both sides of the border may yield what you are looking for.

The best part about research of the Giggey line is that the name is not common like Caron or Smith.

Good luck

Thank you.
She was commonly called Maggie instead of Margaret. She was quite petite, although her sons were large men!

I believe they lived on the Houlton Road? My Father remembers being able to see across to Canada, so they were close to the border.

As I remember the border changed after the Aroostook War and The Webster–Ashburton Treaty, of 1842.

Thanks again,
Elisa
