I am trying to locate the birth place and
parents of Edward Giggey. I know he was
born in 1811 in New Brunswick. He married
Mary Bishop and had 8 sons. They were
Daniel 1840, Peter 1842, William 1847,
Albert 1849, Christopher 1851, Joshua 1854,
Randolph 1861(mine), and John 1864. Most of
Edwards sons were born in Maine. Randolph
lived in Ft Fairfield and Masardis. He
married Ida Mae Mc Laughlin and had two
daughters, Iva Lavilo and Bessie Margaret.
I'd love to hear from anyone who can make
a connection!

I've read your message about Randolph, and in my research for Peter Giggey (Guiggey) I found a date of the marraige or when they applied for the wedding certificate ( which is what they called it back then. They seemed to have been living in Ft. Fairfield at the time, that is where they said they resided. Anyway, according to the IGI tape 10913 Vital records of Ft. Fairfield they were listed on page 58 Vol 3, dated was Mar 25, 1891. The records don't have any ohter information but that would be a start. My Peter comes from New Brunswick also and settled in Ft. Fairfield they are probably all related. According to the Ft. Fairfield Town Directory I found in the library on Randolph lived on North River Rd, 3 1/2 miles out so you might want to search land records for some kind of records, they listed many things in their land records in the olden days. Their was an Edward living on Strickland road 6 1/2 miles out at the time this was dated 1895. Hope this helps.

Is this Randolph that was born in Maine, 1861? My great-great grandfather was Christopher Giggey (Giggy) who had a brother, Randolph, born then. I have been able to trace as far as Edward Giggey (Giggy)married to Mary Bishop. Are we talking about the same family here?

Edward Giggey's son William b. 1846 ME.

Hi.. sorry this isn't a message to be able to connect you... I think we are all trying to find that elusive connection for our Giggey line; however, I just found a note that I had written years ago and filed away for a future date.

It was taken from the Family Registry at the Family History Centre in Salt Lake City, Utah:

Giggey, William
b. 12 Jun 1846 USA/ME. Aroostook Co.
d. 21 Feb 1920 USA/PA. Clearfield
F. Edward Giggey
b. 1812, New Brunswick, Canada
d. 1905, Ft. Fairfield, ME.
M. Mary Bishop ca 1820, Ft. Fairfield, ME.
Sp. Annie Bloom (Blum)

Lumberman in Me. Penn.
Children: Daniel, Victoria, Oncida, Fred, and Electa?

If you would like to email me at olfert5star@telusplanet.net, I can give you the name of the person and their address who submitted this information. I don't know if she would still be at this address but it is worth a try.

There are a few others besides myself who are trying to connect our Giggey line to the same time period - early 1800s - in New Brunswick. A lot of them settled in Kingston Parish and Hampton Parish, Kings Co., NB plus quite a few of them were involved with the water - seaman, boat builders - so those people would likely be closer to Saint John, NB, and Queens Co., as well.

Kelly,
Yes, I would say we are related. It appears
that your great-great grandfather was my
great-grandfather's big brother. I too have
been unable to get past Edward Giggey. I
have found the parents, grandparents and
great grandparents of Mary Bishop. I always
understood that our Giggeys originated in
Ireland although I can find no documentation
to prove it. Randolph spent his entire life
in Maine. What about Christopher?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you so much for the information you
provided about Randolph Giggey. You mentioned
your ancestor Peter was also from Fort
Fairfield. Was his father Edward Giggey and
his mother Mary Bishop? Randolph lived his
entire life in Maine. What about Peter?
I always heard the Giggeys originated in
Ireland although I can find no documentation
to prove it. Have you?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Rhonda,
The only information I have on Peter iw he was married to Priscilla (no last name). I found them in the carlotn county 1851 census. He was 58, she was 63 and the 4 children the only thing it says is they resided in new Brunswick or were born there and he was a farmer. I also found the Brown family in same census - son Jonas age 23 married Roseann Brown age 16. I have there marriage from book A Carlton County NB - 1832 - 1865, then they moved to Fort Fairfield and I have them traced down from their. Hope to get to New Brunswick this year to find domething more.

Rhonda,

Glad to hear form you. I was also told that the Giggey's came from Ireland and have never had any success in tracing it that way. Recently, and I question the validity of this, I was told that the family name may not have been Giggey originally. A relative told me that my great-great grandfather got in to some legal trouble and came over to Canada to change his name and start over. Like I said, I am not too sure of the source on that and it is the only time I have head anything of that kind but I am trying to look into it anyway since I am at a dead end elsewhere.

Kelly,
Thanks for the info. I would love to know the results of your search.
I never heard this story from anyone in Randolph's line but I
will copy your email and send it out to some of my aunts. I have found
the Giggey name spelled Guiggey. Have you seen it that way? I too have
always heard that our Giggeys came from Ireland. I know they were in
New Brunswick before they went to Maine but how and when they got to
New Brunswick and from whence they came I have not been able to verify.
It will be a day to celebrate when someone finds it. Keep in touch!
Rhonda
