I am looking for any info regarding the Gigante (Italian) family. Immigrated from Italy to New York late 1800's to early 1900's. Any info appreciated. Thanks.

I believe my family came to NY through England. I grew up in Brooklyn NY but now live in New Jersey.

I was married to Donald Louis Gigante from 1984 - 1985. His family came from Italy to New York in the early 1900's. There were three brothers who came together. Charles Gigante (Currently living in South America with his wife, no children), Vincent Gigante (it is unclear if this is the same Vincent (the chin) Gigante who runs the New York Italian Mafia and is currently in jail) and Joseph Gigante who had two children that we currently know of in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Joseph Gigante is my childrens great grandfather. Unfortunately he passed away 2 years ago in a car crash in Mexico. He didn't have much contact with the family after the 1950's. And unfortunately I know just about as much as anyone in my ex-husbands family. I hope this helps you.

Hello, my name is Pietra and I am a direct descendent of the Giganti's or Gigante's from Montevago, Sicily. My father is Ignatius James Giganti, his father is Calogero Zito Giganti. Calogero's father was Ignazio "James" Giganti. From what I am told by my father, Ignazio "James" was a sheepherder in Montevago.
I also know that Ignazio "James" Giganti married Pietra Zito Giganti (whom I was named after) and they had seven children: Calogero, Dominica(Mamie), Mary, Frances, Catherine,Joseph and Paul.
Calogero Giganti (my grandfather) married Rose Randazzo (her family originally from San Ciprello, Sicily)and had four sons and an adopted daughter: Ignatius James(my father) Paul, Nino , Nick and Pietra all from Springfield, Illinois.
I reside in St. Louis, Mo. with my husband. My parents and my brothers and sisters also live here in St. Louis.
I don't know if this helps you but if any of these names sound familiar, I also am trying to go a little further back with my own lineage. Good Luck!!

It's unlikely that your Vincent Gigante is the Chin. The Chin is my cousin once removed. His brothers are Mario (retired from the construction business) and Louis (a Roman Caltholic priest in Brooklyn), his cousins were Ciro (my father, deceased), Robert (my uncle, also deceased) and Tina (my aunt, living in Brooklyn). Hope this helps... if anyone has any info on my family Gigante, I'd love to learn more. Thanks.

I have ancestors who came to New York in the early 1900's (approx 1914) from Conversano(Bari) Italy. Some of the names were Michael, Angelo, Anna, Maria, Oronzo and a few more I can't recall. They were all born in the first 10 years of 1900. They went from New York to Akron OH where their father (Guiseppe) was living. Not sure when he came over, not listed in Ellis Island records.

Hello: I read your message with great interest. My grandfather Sebastiano Gigante came to America in 1907 from Alberobello,Italy. He went to Utica, NY. I know that we are related to the Randazzo family in Utica. Any connection here? My fathers name was Dominick.
