I am new at this, but Simon before coming to Canada has me at a loss. Are there records showing that he lived in Ireland? I have found nothing. Can anyone help me?

He came over from Belfast. He is one of three brothers. They originate from Scotland but it is very difficult to find records. The churches in Ireland had tight control over records at that time.

Thanks, he is a hard guy to get a handle on outside of Canada and the US.

Does anyone know who the two brothers were? He is my biggest tree mystery.

You might look at Simon Giffin or Griffin Goodell that lived in Keene New Hamshire. There were other Giffin families that lived in Keen in the 1700's and 1800's as well. The Keene Historical Society is on the web.

Try Index 422 at Ancestry.com My husband Is a direct descendent of Simon Giffin and I have him listed as being born in Northern Ireland in 1711 and moving to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1747. He had a brother that came over about the same time. I don't have any information about the Giffin's in Ireland.
