Rachel, Do you have an interest in the Giffels name and can you help find any info on the name that is on internet. I am new to this and surely don't know how to find it. We have lots of info that Arlene and Uncle Carl worked on but maybe never put on the e-mail, even tho Arlene was computer buff. Are you a Giffels? My mother was. Four Giffels brothers came here from Germany and my Grandfather was son of one I believe. I would have to look that up, think I have all of it on paper here somewhere. Does that ring any bells with you?

I think I've heard of Carl. I had a Granfather Roy who pasted away a few years ago. His full first name was Monroe I think.
Does that help any?

Hi Rachel, My mother, Clara Giffels Allen had lots of brothers. Uncle Roy is still alive, Carl, Bert, Ray, Herman and Leon are all dead. She had several sisters, Helen, Irma, Bernice, and May. Another brother Peter, was injured and died when a kid. I understand that the Giffels name came from only one small area of Germany. Do you have any info on that. I know my cousin found distant relatives perhaps in Canada just before she took ill and died in a couple of months. All the work she and Uncle Carl did is with my cousins in Michigan. I had hoped Arlene, the dead cousin, had put it all on internet. I don't really seem to know how to look it up. Now that the yard work is slowing down maybe I'll get back to it. Do you know about your family and who came from Germany?

I am interested to see if you might be able to help with a Jacob Giffel and Louisa Wagenberger. Tehy emigrated in 1860 from Bavaria and settled in Terre Haute, Indiana. By trade Jacob was a wagon and carriage maker.

Hi, I just found your messge. My mother was a Giffels. 4 brothers came from Germany to the US and settled in Michigan area. They were born in the 1820's. The name Giffels was from only one place in Germany. A small valley off the Rhein R. up the Ahr river, which runs into the Rhein. You can get maps of that area off the internet. It is not that far from Frankfurt. I lived in Frankfurt on the Mein a year while my husand was in the army in the 50's and didn't know about that little valley. where the Giffels originated from. I gather Giffel folks were scattered over Europe at various times because of wars, etc. and so came to America from various other places depending on the political messes of the day. Name started out spelled Gieffels, I think. My mother's uncles were Peter, Stephen, Bertram, John and William. Her Grandfather was Bertram Giffles. He died in 1910 and is buried in St. Johns, Michigan. There are some other Giffels families and one has a regular reunion for Giffels. A cousin of mine went one year. They may be able to help you. I am not sure if I have info to connect you with them. Are you interested? Don't know if any of this is helpful. Let me know how I can help. Mary Catherine

Hi, I am searching for a Giffels line. (spelled gieffels in my records) I have a Caroline Gieffels (born 1872 in Detroit, MI) who married William Burton in 1892. William & Caroline are my 2nd great grandparents. Caroline's father is Stephen Gieffels (born 1824 Ahr Valley, Prussia) married to Theressa. Can anyone here help me with that information? Thanks!
