I am trying to research my family lineage. I have traced the "Giebel" name back to my great-great-grandfather in Colijnsplaat, the Netherlands in the early 1700's. All my family, the Giebel side, came from Holland.
If there is anyone out there that has information on the "Giebel's" from Holland, please e-mail me at rgiebel1@twcny.rr.com and we can compare notes.

Thanks
Ron Giebel

Hai, I am Kitty Breen.
My older brother is called Fred Giebel (now 61 years old).
My mother Rinske Breen married his father Henk Giebel in 1946 in Amsterdam, Holland. He went to Indonesia in 1947 to fight against the Indonesian people (Holland wanted to keep the colony) but struck a landmine and died. Buried in Java.
Henk Giebel, born 6 november 1924, had 2 brothers, don't know their names yet.
His parents lived in the Alblasstraat, Amsterdam South.
I'm trying to find out more about the Giebels.
Greetings from Kitty

Dear Kitty,

I think I can help you a little. My grandfather Hendrik Wilhelm Bon told us this story:
"my mother (Cornelia Giebel) told me of a brother of her mother who went to the colony, and died. The post-office servant come to their house at the door and announced with loud voice, that in Bandjer Massin, of course in service of the people, then and then Giebel was killed".

My job is to make a complete story about my grandfather (he died in 2002) and to check his stories against the facts. I knew Henk Giebel (in the records officially 'Hendrik Johan') married someone named Breen, but didn't know your mother's name because I didn't find any records about their marriage.

His brothers:
George Giebel, born 28-12-1920
Gijsbertus Giebel, born 08-03-1923
both in Amsterdam

Please find the official death-announcements enclosed.

My information is not complete yet, I'm still searching and the Giebels are not my first priority. However your information is also valuable to me because it prooves this story is correct. Reading your message I understand your mother remarried and you're a halfsister of Fred? (in the ads named Freddy).

I'm looking forward to your reply! Yours sincerely,

Gerrit Bon.

Hi Kitty,

I've been drawing some lines and must conclude that my grandfather couldn't be referring to Henk Giebel. If his story is true (and most of them are), then some relative of Henk also died in Indonesia.

Did you see this website: http://www.kesting.demon.nl/genea/nam/nm_start.html?name=And...

It is also about your brother's family.

See you, Gerrit Bon.
