FALCONER--Horace H. Giddy, 87, of 14 Kimball Ave., died at 9:03 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 10, 2001) in his home. He was born May 28, 1913, in Bideford, England, the son of John and Mary Short Giddy. He immigrated to Canada in 1925 and later to the United States, settling in the Falconer area. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served with the Glider Artillery Division of the 101st Air Borne in England and the European Theatre. He was an honorary recipient of the Bronze Star for his participation in the Battle of the Bulge at Baston, the invasion of Normandy, the battles of Holland, Belgium and The Cross Roads. Earlier he was employed by Empire Case Goods in Jamestown for 10 years, and retired from Blackstone Corp. in 1978, after 32 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie E. Cronin Giddy, whom he married Nov. 8, 1947, in Sagemore, Pa.; a son, Ronald H. Giddy of Falconer; two daughters: Rhonda K. Sonne of Bethany, N.Y., and Rayanne Hotchkiss of Falconer; nine grandchildren: three great-grandchildren; two brothers: Reginald and Dr. Frederick E. Giddy, both of Falconer; and a sister, Doris Baker of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Herbert Giddy who died in 1984 and Frank Giddy in 1970; and a sister, Minnie Gray Soderburg in 1959. Burial will be in Levant Cemetery, Falconer, NY.
