Gidaro's in Kulpmont

Gidaro's in Kulpmont

Classification: Query
Surnames: Gidaro, Procopio
I know that there were a few Gidaro's that immigrated from Isca Sullo Ionio, Italy to Northumberland County, PA. My relatives were Dominic Gidaro and Caterina Procopio. Dominic came over in 1913 and had children Anthony, Stephen, Marie, and Elizabeth. Stephen owned the Gidaro's Grocery Store in Kulpmont. I know that there is also a Gidaro's Pizzeria in Kulpmont and I would be interested on how the two families are related or any information on my family in Kulpmont.
Thanks
Lisa

Hi Lisa, I'm from Kulpmont and my father Charlie was the orginal owner of Gidaro's Pizzeria in Kulpmont. Oddly, I came across your listing while googling "gidaro" which I do once-in-a-while. Your family of Gidaro's from the grocery store and mine are not directly related according to family lore. My father descended from Bruno Gidaro and Lena Venna. Bruno was from Isca Sull'Ionio/Calabria. My grandfather had 3 sisters, 1 of which was a step-sister, and 3 brothers. The sisters were Concetta, Madelena, and Katerina who was the step sister. The brothers were Nick, Jim, and Frank. Our Nick(Domenico or Nicola, not sure) as far as we can tell stayed single. Anyway, my grandfather always said that we were not related to the Gidaro's of the Grocery Store but he came to America in 1906 I believe and according to my mom, he didn't keep in touch with his family - there may be a "story" that I don't know but he died in 1974 when I was 4 so I was young. In any case, my dad Charlie passed away last year or I would have had you talk with him because he would have remembered more. Just to make another connection, my dad originally opened Charlies Pizza in the 60's and sold the business to his brother Bernard and nephew Joseph who owned the business until 2003 or so when Joe passed away.

My grandparents were poor as most were in Kulpmont, so I don't have many pictures, but I would recognize my grandfather if you had any - he looked almost exactly like my dad!

If you would like, you can contact me, but I'm afraid that I don't have much more information for you - My email address here would work but you will better luck at chuck.gidaro@firstdata.com.
