Looking for information on James Edward Gicker, son of Francis Gicker (b. Birdsboro, PA in 1951, d. ?), and Mary McBriarty Gicker. He was born in Wilmington, DE on March 15, 1973. There were brothers or sisters, and all were placed in the Children's Home in Claymont, DE. Have no information for any of them, and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
You asked about Francis Gicker, well he is my great Uncle. His father was Jacob E. Gicker who settled in Delaware. I have been trying to find out why he gave up his children when his parents lived in the Newark, De. area. It is if he dropped off the face of the earth. If you have any information I would love to hear from you, it is part of the family that no one knows about. If you want more info from me please let me know.

Hello B Schoefield 139,
Thank you so much for replying. My apologies for not replying to your post before this, but there were many upheavals in my life, and everything has just now settled down. The family data you give is the same as I have, so you must be related. To my knowledge, Francis Gicker deserted his family, and his wife was unable to keep the children, so they were awarded wards of the court. One of the children, my grandfather, James Edward Gicker, was said to have told my mother that his father came to his house in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania many years later. Apparently, there was a great deal of bitterness on my grandfather's part, and he refused to take him in, but did provide some financial assistance. I thought Francis died in Philadelphia later, but have not been able to verify this, and the trail ends there.
If you are still speaking to me after all this time, I would like very much to hear from you. The Gicker side of the family has been lost to me all these years, and it would be wonderful to know that I have relatives.
Better close now, or this will go on forever.
Best wishes,
Gloria Gicker Kendall
