Hello Linda Giles!

I am so excited to finally receive a reply to one of many of my postings! I have been searching for information for 3 years. I recently came upon an obituary notice for a lady who lived in New Hampshire with a posted maiden name of Gichun. Severin, I believe was her married name. That is why I mentioned family in New Hampshire. I have been searching listings in Massachusetts for Gichun to no avail. Wonder why with all those brothers and sisters of Grandpa's I never received a bit before? Oh well, this is even better!

My grandfather died January 18, 1986 of cancer. I was only 14 and hadn't gotten to the age yet where my family roots were of importance to me. My grandfather was my hero and his passing tore me apart. I wasn't able to talk about him until many years and by that time my grandmother had fallen ill with cancer and her voice was taken from her. Once again, family roots didn't seem as important as just being with her.

I am very excited to learn more of my family. My e-mail address is GypcLdy@aol.com. I am married to a career Air Force man. We have two beautiful children Ashley, who is 6 and just finished her Kindergarten year, and Collin, who is 4. We currently live in Biloxi, Mississippi. Here is my homepage (it is about a year out of date though)= http://hometown.aol.com/gypcldy/index.html

Thank you so much for responding to my message. I have so many questions about all these new family members!!

Sincerely,
Crystal

Surnames: HICHUN - Gichun
Dear Allen:

I do not believe that our families are tied. Since that posting I have found that the name Gichun had been formally changed by my ggrandfather from "Hichun". I have their parents name and they do not seem to match - also the names you listed seem to indicate a diferent religious background. My ancesteres were Russian Greek Orthodox Catholic's.

I'm sorry to sqaush another lead....I hate that for you! Good luck and happy hunting!
Crystal

Hello Michael,

Yes we do have the same last name. It is my husband's, I wonder if you two are related? Do you have any connections to Pennsylvania, specifically Johnstown?

Hi Crystal,
I just happen to find your posting - I recall you wrote about an obituatry for a women from NH married name Severin - madien name was Martha Marie Gichun. She was my Aunt - I can tell you this - My Grandfather Was Alexander John Gichun born in 1919 in Massachusetts since deceased in 1997 - he was the son of 2 Russian immigrants that came over from Russia as small children - they resided in Massachusetts. My Grandfather then married having 2 children my Aunt {Martha Gichun Serverin} and my mother {Judith Anne Gichun} I also heard that the Gichun name may have been miss understood and was Hichun. My great grandfathers name was John and my great grandmothers name was Martha - {I do not know her maiden name.} In addition to my grandfather they had a daughter Pearl - I believe that there was also another son who has long been deceased - he was living in California and died many years ago - I believe of cancer - I think there was also another daughter besides Pearl.

Hi - In further reading the postings on Gichun - Linda metioned Sophie and Walter - we are all definately related - my Grandfather {Alexander} had a brother Walter and Sister Sophie. I also remember my mother and my aunt speaking of a cousin Bobby {your father} that lived in Boston - he would come to vist them and stay - the local girls went crazy for him - the character the Fonz on Happy Days reminded them of Bobby.

Hi Cheryl!

It seems we are second cousins! I have lost touch with Linda Giles, who would be a cousin to your Mom. She was trying to research John and Martha's roots. I guess they refused to talk about where they came from. Linda did say that John (great grandpa) told her he changed his last name legally to Hichun upon registering over here. She was going to take the alien registration numbers that I have and get copies of the orinal paperwork.

Anyway, my e-mail addy is GypcLdy@aol.com. E-mail me soon so we can get to know each other.
