Hi Francine, I'm looking for anyone with the surname of Bernak/Bernack/Bernock. My great-grandfather was Edward, spelling of his name changed, finally ending as Bernock. I know he had a younger sister, Eva and his mother's name was Caroline, father's name, Carl. He settled and lived in Detroit, Michigan He was born in 1866, died in 1940. Any connections, understand that the family had relatives in Illinois and Ohio. Thanks, Diane

My mother-in-law's father was Martin Smerek from Rejdova. He came to the US in 1903. According to what I have been able to find his father was also Martin Smerek. Do you see any connection?

Thanks for your reply, Diana! I believe that the Martin Smerek that accompanied my grandmother had settled in the US prior to the time that my grandmother came to the US (1912). It is my understanding that he lived in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. Perhaps there is a connection if your Martin lived in the Cleveland area. Was your mother-in-law's mother's maiden name Giba?

Martin Smerek, from Rejdova, born 1881,came to the US in 1903 and settled in Guernsey Co, OH. In 1906 married Susan Berdjar, also from Rejdova, in Guernsey Co. They later moved to Cleveland. I find them in the 1930 census. Martin's father, also Martin was married to Mary. I have conflicting last names for her (Volko, Zabrel)

Thank you, Diana! This sounds like the man that accompanied my grandmother as her mother had come over prior to that time and settled in Guernsey County. If you are interested, I can share some additional information about my grandmother after she came to the US.
