I found your message with the previous one. In my family, I have learned that our original name in Italy was Giacchetta. But, due to many factors, it is now Giachetti. I'm not sure how the name changed from Giacchetta to Giacchetti, but this happened going through Ellis Island. The name change to Giachetti was by my grandfather, since the double 'c' was not used in English.

My family is from Brooklyn, NY. Originally, from Sirolo, Italy which is near Ancona.

the Giacchetta name is not common in Italy, so I am interested in your origins.

For some reason I wasn't alerted to your replies. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.

Since I last posted I have found my great-grandfather Francesco Giacchetta's Ellis Island record. He was from Notaresco in Teramo...or at the very least one of the outlying towns near there.

I believe he had siblings (atleast 1 sister) but I dont know where they ended up. Francesco would have been born around 1903-1904 since he was 18 when he arrived at Ellis Island in 1921. He settled in Philadelphia and mentions an Uncle Giuseppe Girari of Masters St in Philly on the ship's manifest.

I also found record of a Chiara Giacchetta who arrived earlier in the 1900's and claimed Giuseppe Girari for her husband (on 9th St in South Philly).

My grandmother, the daughter of Francesco who died early in life, grew up believing that their family name was Giacchetti.

Have either of you tried the www.familysearch.org by the LDS?

DO YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON A MAN NAMED GIOVANNI GIACCHETTI?
I BELIEVE HE WAS BORN ABT 1830'S IN ITALY AND MARRIED A WOMAN NAMED ANNA MASOTOLA (SPELLING OF LAST NAME COULD BE INCORRECT).

THAY HAD ONE DAUGHTER THAT I AM AWARE OF NAMED CONCETTA GIACCHETTI BORN IN 1859 (NAPLES, ITALY) AND DIED FEBURARY 22, 1920 (NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK).

CONCETTA GIACCHETTI MARRIED CESARE VOLPE (BORN ABOUT 1846 IN NAPLES, ITALY - DIED APRIL 6, 1913 IN NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK).
I BELIEVE THEY HAD FIVE CHILDREN: ALBERT, FRANCES, ARTHUR ANTHONY, SILVIO ANTONIO AND FRANK VOLPE.

ANY ASSISTANCE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

THANKS,
AMY

I BELIEVE THEY HAD FIVE CHILDREN: ALBERT, FRANCES, ARTHUR ANTHONY, SILVIO ANTONIO AND FRANK VOLPE.

UPDATE: I BELIEVE ALBERT AND FRANCES HAD A DIFFERENT MOTHER THAN ARTHUR, SILVIO AND FRANK VOLPE. AFTER LOOKING AT ONLINE SOURCES, I BELIEVE ALBERT AND FRANCES' MOTHER MAY HAVE BEEN NAMED BEATRICE D'AUVIJO. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF THE ABOVE SURNAMES, PLEASE CONTACT ME AT aschaller1@nc.rr.com
