My mother's maiden name is Giacalone. She was born and raised in Mazara del Vallo, where most of her family still resides. My grandfather's name is Paolo Giacalone. The name Giacalone in Sicily is the equivalent of Smith here, so it's pretty difficult sometimes to find relations here in the states, but what the heck!

Hi! My grandfather's name is Paolo. He was born in 1920. I believe his father's name was Matteo and his mother was Santa Arena. I will ask him. They always recycle names in Sicily. I will let you know.

I believe my father-in-law Rosario Giacalone's mother's name was Quinci or Quinchi. I have it written down at home in my son's baby book. I'll look it up and see if we have any kind of match! I'll get back to you.

I checked and my father-in-law Rosario (deceased, unfortunately in about 1971-2), was born on May 18, 1896 in Mazara to Antonio (Anthony) Giacalone and Angelina Quinchi. He had a brother whose name is unknown. They became estranged after coming to the US. Pa was age 12 at that time and eventually settled in San Pedro/San Diego (he was a fisherman), and then came north to San Francisco. See other messages posted by me to this website re other family info. Mama and Papa are both gone so I can get no further info. I know that my ex-husband, Gus (August Paul) Giacalone, and I visited family in Pedro back in the 60s but I don't remember their names. I only met them once. Hope this info is helpful.

My grancfather Andrea Giacalone was born in Marsala and his wife was Margherita Sciacca also of Marsala. The came over in the early part of the century. When my grand mother came with 4 of her children in about 1912. My uncle Tony ( Antonio) got lost as they were leaving the boat and the family stayed with relatives in Brooklyn ? New York . for a week until he was found and then they went on their way to Chicago where they were going to live. My father Antonino was the only one of the brothers and sisters to be born her and the youngest he was born in 1915. It would be so exciting to find a connection here. Please let me know if any of this rings in with you or yours. Thanks in advance for your help.
