Elizabeth, I find it interesting your grandfather's name is Anthony Joseph Giacalone. My father-in-law's name was supposed to be the same, but they left off the Joseph on the birth certificate.. so he is just Anthony Giacalone. I was wondering if there could be a connection. His father was Cosmo Giacalone who married Antonina Ingargiola. I can't find anything beyond the Cosmo because he divorced Antonina and she was disgraced and cut off from her family. It's been very frustrating researching them at times, but I never give up.They both were young, I think 15 and 16, sounds right. Anyway, if Anthony could be related, I would like to know. Thanks for your time. -Beth

Beth- I just spoke with my dad. Apparently my great grandfather's name was Vicenzo (VIncent). I know that my family lived in south New Jersey and that Vicenzo Giacalone was a surgeon. He too divorced his first wife at some time. I dont' recall her name, I'd have to ask my dad's sister. From what I remember, I believe that after the divorce she moved to Iowa and had a farm there. I also know that Vicenzo had a brother Bart and a sister Anne. Vicenzo later remarried, although I don't know her name either and that the beautiful stone house that he owned went to the 2nd wife after his death. I'll let you know if I find out some more. I am named after my grandmother Anna Giacalone. Her husband, my grandfather was Vito..according to my mom , he came from a town she recalls being told as "Vita Loro". After reading your message I now know that this town does exist and that my mom just had a portion of the information. Our family lives in NJ and has lived here since Grandpa Vito came over from Italy.

Anne, just wanted to share with you that I have an Aunt Ann Giacalone. However, she is a Giacalone by marriage. Just thought that was pretty neat!
|
Anne thanks for your message. Vita as far as I know it is the only name our town was given. It could have been Vita loro as well I am not sure. My father said that people in our town did immigrate to New Jersey, and New York. My father was in Brooklyn for a bit before he came to Canada. His brother Nicola Giacalone was here before him and his sister Maria Giacalone who became Marsala was here as well. Did you have any relations to the name Accardi?

Re: Giacalone in Kentucky
Hello my name is Michael Jamet. I may be looking for the same Frank Giacalone. He was in Brooklyn in the mid 50's and is probably in his mid 70's now. Do you know if he was married to Barbara then?
