Edwardo ghys was Richards father and he was burried in Oostburg I'm not sure who his wife is but it is either cornealia dde Looze or Hortense Van der Wiggin. Marie Ghys' father was Edwardo Verbecke one or the other of these ladies was his wife. It would make my day if you could help carolyn cole wheeler Ghys

I have a Maria Ghysels (Ghijsels, Dutch) born in Zuidzande married to Izaak DeRuijscher (DeRuyscher, American) and living in Oostburg in the beginning of 1880.
Also a Suzanna Adriana Ghijsels being married in Oostburg to Jan Louis Pauw in 1885. Jan Louis Pauw was born in Oostburg. I have a dutch cousin who is researching the
Ghijsels who left the Netherlands. I don't recognize the names that you sent but he might.

My cousin in the netherlands did a little digging and your family might be related to our family but he needs dates of births and deaths to check with the research that he has already done. He found Richard in Oostburg and since both of our families come from the same area their is a chance that you family just shortened their name from the Ghysels to Ghys.

I was glad that you are looking for information for us. I just moved and I have hunted every where for the Ghys obituaries. at one time our name was von Ghijs. Richard Ghys came to the USA some time in the 1920's I think. His wife was Marie Verbecke. His father was Edwardo von Ghijs and he was burried in Oostsburg. I know that they had relative still there because Marie would have her grandchildren dictate the letters. Edwardo Verbecke was her father. We have Cornealia de Looze and Hortence van der Wiggin as wives of these men bu I don't know who belonged to whom at this point. I will return the correct data as soon as I find it. Carolyn

Did you receive the e-mail address for Bram Ghijsels in the Netherlands. He is the one who found the information. This week he and his family are in Austria Skiing. He is retired and enjoying it very much.
