Death of C. N. Abram Ghormley -- 1883
Taken from the Cherokee Advocate, Oklahoma, 23 March 1883
TAKEN IN EARLY LIFE
Died at one o'clock thirty minutes, Monday morning last, at his sisters Mrs. Mary Brown near Tahlequah C. N. Abram Ghormley, aged 22 years.
The deceased was a son of Mr. William Ghormley of Going Snake District, and a brother of our fellow citizen Mr. Michael Ghormley of Tahlequah District this Nation.
He was sick at the Cherokee Male Seminary of which he was a pupil and was removed to his sister's where he died of a typhoid form of fever, at the hour indicated above. He was a young man of rare promise - had no irregular habits whatever - was industrious at home and equally so at school. His family loved him and he was worthy of it. His teachers praised him and he deserved it. With his fellow pupils he was a favorite, as he was also with all others who knew him well. His early death is a terrible shock to his parents and immediate relations and friends - and a most serious loss to his Nation which so sorely needs the services of all her virtuous sons. He died as he had lived, with no spot on his young name - and in peaceful anticipation of a happy eternity. His remains were taken home for burial. We offer our tribute of sympathy to each and all of the bereaved family.

Re: Death of C. N. Abram Ghormley -- 1883
I'm sorry but I did not see this posting until just now. William C. Ghormley was my gr. grand father. I have that this Abraham died at the age of 4yrs.old. Thank you for this article. I have a biography of the Ghormley's written by a Narin Ghormley. I have been looking for a living relative of hers for five years, as I have the original and I figure there is a type version out there somewhere. The first four or five pages are missing. Can you help? Can I help you with any information as my grandmother was a major contributor to her writing and to the book titled "Yesterday, today, and tomorrow. (I think that's the correct title.) Thanks again, Sherman
