Looking for missing pages on a manuscript on Hugh Ghormley line.

I have a manuscript that was done on the Ghormley line starting with Hugh Ghormley 1733/1813, who settled in Pa. It was done in the 1930's by Narin Ghormley and is remarkable for the work she did without the aid of a computer. The first 4 or 5 pages are missing. I am looking for them plus any thing of interest on the Ghormley's. If you want a free copy I will give you one. You must mail me a empty memory stick with a self address return package and postage attached to it.(If you have something I can copy of interest you could put that on it. smace@wowway.com Sherman

Hello. Although I do not know of the manuscript that you mentioned, I do know of Hugh Ghormley I (1733-1813). He is my 6th great-grandfather. I would be happy to share any of the Ghormley information that I have with you. My decent-line goes through his son Thomas Ghormley (1766-1840). If there is any information that I can help you with, please let me know.

So glad to hear from you,but there is a misunderstanding. I have a handwritten manuscript on the Ghormley line that was written in the 30's by a Narin Ghormley and given to my grandmother. Its a long story but the first 5 or 6 pages are missing from the beginning. Narin had a daughter and I'm hoping to find those missing pages. I have put my copy into a type form, and I have made it available to interested Ghormleys. It is probably I who can help you! If you would like to contact me my email is smace@wowway.com. I will tell you more and would love to hear what you have. I also have a number of pictures of Ghormleys. SHERMAN

I went back and looked and mine comes through Abraham. He became wealthy and in his old age it is believed he was murdered for some jewelry he went to buy in Penn. There is another book put out by Pearl Ghormley. My grandmother contributed to both of these books. I found one on amazon, but they found out it was in demand and asked a very high price.

Well cousin, I don't think I have the pages of the manuscript, but I did find much of the same information in the 1922 Tennessee State Civil War Survivors questionaire answered by Wiliam G Ghormley. It may be the source of the manuscript of which you write. He was blind at the time, so someone may have kept a copy of the answers he gave, or transcribed them later, giving rise to the manuscript. It runs some 42 questions, and covers his life before and after the Civil War. The last question is where the genealogy comes from as I remember.

I do come through most of the same line:
James (before 1733 Ireland)
Hugh (2 Mar 1733 Tyrone, Ireland)
Abraham (26 Dec 1758 Omagh, Tyrone, Ireland)
Pleasant Miller G.(7 Mar 1804 Chillicothe, Ross Co. Ohio)
William Green G.(10 May 1841 Jalapa, Monroe Co. Tennessee)
Benjamin Finley G. (6 Apr 1873 Tellico Plains, Monroe Co. Tennessee)
Edith Irene G. (15 Jun 1899 Hilleview, Ill. My grandmother)

I do have a copy of the Pearl Ghormley book "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow" so lookups can be done. Brunner Land in Tellico Plains back in the 1970's(?) told me of the story of his Abrahams murder as well.

Now that I think about it again, there is another manuscript running around about Bucky Hunt and the settling of the Tellico Plains area. I'll see if I can relocate it (we moved recently and have about 100 boxes still to open).

Hope this has been of use.

David Campbell

David, I'm truely sorry that I have not kept records of who and whom I have talked to over the years and a copy of that conversation. I'm at a lost as to when I have emailed you. Would like to talk more as we are definitely cousins. I'm sure the story of Abraham murder came from my grandmother Charlotte Petty who got the stories from her mother Charlotte Ray/Devine/Ghormley. Very recently my cousin and myself finished a biography she wrote of the the family that I discovered in my mother's effects after her death in 2004. We are just about to put it into a book form that Kinko's will print up for us. My email is smace@wowway.com if you would like to disscuss more with me. Love to talk! Sherman
