Edith A. Gholston, 92, passed away October 30, 2014, at Clarksburg Continuous Care in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
Born in Monongah, WV, she came to the Toledo, Ohio area in 1955.
She was a math specialist with the Toledo Public Schools for 32 years, retiring in 1987.
She worked as a teacher at Gunkel and King Schools as well as Assistant Director of Head start and Principle of Collingwood Learning Center.
She earned her bachelor's degree in education from West Virginia State College and her master's and math specialist degrees from the University of Toledo
. In addition, she worked for the University of Toledo as a supervisor of student teachers and method students.
Edith, a lifelong Episcopalian, was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church since 1955. She served on the Vestry and in many areas of the church.
Edith was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Top Ladies of Distinction, the National Association of Negro and Professional Women's Club, as well as other teacher and honorary organizations and sororities.
In 1988, Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Gholston and leaves to cherish her memory brother, Lawrence Young of Arlington, TX; nephew, Eric (Pam) Simmons of Clarksburg, WV; niece, Sylvia Mosby of Philadelphia, PA; cousins, Saundra and William Turner and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, 5:00-8:00 p.m. including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority rites at 6:00 p.m., NB&PWC services at 6:30 p.m. and Phi Delta Kappa Sorority at 7:00 p.m. followed by Top Ladies of Distinction, at Dale-Riggs Funeral Home Chapel, funeral services Friday 11:00 a.m.
All Saints Episcopal Church, Rev. Beverly Tasy celebrant, interment Restlawn Cemetery.
