Dear Jill, Yes, I do remember Louis and John. They were both handsome and very intelligent. I remember my dad saying that your grandfather had an inventive mind and I believe he had at one time studied to be a chiropractor. I was in high school when he died and since I am now seventy that was quite a long time ago. The family had immigrated from San Martino in the Piedmont region of Italy. There are still Ghiardi's living there but I don't believe they are related or perhaps very distant because all of the brothers and sisters came to America. I met one of the relatives about twenty years ago when he visited here with a cousin on my mother's side of the family. My niece Valencia, who lives in Lower Burrell, near New Kensington used to occasionally keep me informed about Esther but she is now quite tied up with taking care of her mother,Louise, who is in a nursing home suffering from dementia. If you talk to Esther please give her my love. Our family is quite large and scattered. there were five of us, me, my sister Minnie, brothers John, Martin and Tony Theodore. Minnie, John and Martin are deceased. Between us we had 20 children. I have five and 12 grandchildren. They live in Milwaukee and Racine, WI and in Munster, IN. If you have any questions I will try to answer them.

Dear Peggy - I'm amazed at how small the world really is. Imagine, by luck, finding you! My Uncle Louis was very inventive. I remember when I was small he put together electronic items in his basement. He lived in New Kensington with Esther and his mother, Mary. He worked at a stell mill and never married. He passed away around 25 years ago. Esther never married either. She still lives in the same house in New Kensington. My father, John, passed away about 8 years ago. He spent over 20 years in the military so we lived many different places. We finally settled in Phoenix. My parents had 3 children. I recall that my mother has said my grandfather was a chiropractor. She never met him as he passed away prior to her marriage to my father.
Again, it is good to converse with you and hope you will write back. Jill

Dear Jill, sorry it has taken me so long to reply but we have been dealing with some medical problems. My husband had a TIA and had to have carotid artery surgery two weeks ago. He is now doing fine for which we are very thankful.
Valencia (ghiardi) Yajko notified me several weeks ago that there was to be a Ghiardi family picnic in Pennsylvania but with our situation here we did not attend.
Are you living in Phoenix? My daughter Angela gets out there occasionally to visit in-laws in Rio Verde.

Dear Peggy - Sorry to hear about your husband, but am glad to hear he is doing well. My father passed away from complications following a stroke so I know how stressful it can be. However, now with all the new drugs they can give, it can be less damaging.
Yes, I live in Phoenix. Actually I live in Glendale, a suburb. My father always wanted to live in the warmth so they moved here in 1979. It's been warm and humid the past few weeks since it is the time for monsoons. We get used to the heat and learn to get up early in the morning and work outside until around 10:00, then come inside until the early evening.
Where is Rio Verde? I haven't heard of it before.
Summer seems to be flying by this year, fortunately. I am planning to go to Vegas in two weeks to meet a friend from high school that I haven't seen in over 25 years. Should be lots of fun.
Well, take care and best wishes to your husband for a speedy recovery. Jill

Jill, If you look on the map you will see that Rio Verde is northeast of Phoenix, north of Fort McDowell. My son-in-law is going out to visit his parents next week and his father told him not to bother bringing golf clubs as it is too hot, so I know what you mean about the temperature. I didn't realize Arizona got humid, I thought it was always low humidity.
We live in Munster, IN which is 35 minutes from downtown Chicago, IL. The weather has been a delightful low 80's this week. We lived in Miami for three years (1955 to '58) when my husband, Bernard, was in the Coast Guard. Those were the days before air conditioning so it was like living in a steam bath from March until November, although our house had large jalousie windows and a delightful southeast breeze which made nightime quite comfortable for sleeping.
We spent a few November days in Globe, Arizona a couple years ago. It was a business trip to a copper mine, which I believe is now no longer functioning. We very much enjoyed the weather and the scenery . Drove through Salt River Canyon and climbed to the Indian cliff dwellings.
It was good to hear from you again. Peggy

Hi Peggy, Hope this gets through, my great grandfather is Giovanni (John), your mothers' brother. I've been talking to my Uncle Tom Foghino about our relatives. There some Foghinos' that we don't know if they are related or not. They were from Scarmagno, I think?

Peggy I've one Catherine Ghiardi in my family tree. She was born in Vialfre (italy) near torino about 1873 and she was married with Mike Gais, and they had some children: Mary, Catherine, Tony John, Domenick and James. They lived in Pa and the doughter, Caterine married a cousin of my grandmother. Is it possible that you are my relatives? I'm writing from Italy.
