Re: Ghelfi's from Genoa,WI
My mother's father's name was Albert Ghelfi. My mother's name was Maxiene Rosemunda Ghelfi. I know that she grew up in Genoa Wisconsin. I however grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. I am the oldest of her 3 daughters. My name is Angela Ghelfi. I would like to know more about my Ghelfi family history. It appears we may be related.

Re: Ghelfi's from Genoa,WI
I would love any information on Primo and Martha (Venner) Ghelfi as they are my Great Grandparents too. Their son Albert Ghelfi was my Grandfather, but he died in May 1965 just 3 months before I was born in August. My mom, his daughter, Maxiene Rosemunda Ghelfi passed in 1993 and she was estranged from the family in Genoa Wisconsin my entire life. we rarely met any Ghelfi relatives....I remember going to see my Grandmother, Frieda (I'm still searching for her maiden name), a few times as a child, and I know my mother corresponded with a few of her sisters,,,mainly Edith Ghelfi.... Anyways, I'm 41 years old now and know almost nothing about my Ghelfi heritage...any help would be great. Thanks! Angie Ghelfi

Angie ~
Yup, we're family! I have your grandfather (Albert)in my database but I don't have your mother. Does she have sisters named Joyce and Marion? I would appreciate any info. you can give me on your mom to fill in.
As for Primo & Martha, Primo was born 09 Jun 1843 and died 20 Dec 1916 and I have no information on his parents. Martha was born 25 Oct 1857 and died 24 Feb 1933 and her parents were John Vener & Catherine Fanetti. They had 13 children with Albert being the youngest. For some reason they put 2 n's in Marth's last name (my understanding is the 2 brothers John & Frank that came over from Italy did it but I am uncertain as to why) but I have traveled to Italy and seen family headstones and the original spelling is Vener.
I would love to chat with you - feel free to email me with any other questions.

Re: Ghelfi's from Genoa,WI
Hey there Tracy! Thanks for responding. My Mom was closest with her sister Edith, but did have a sister named Joyce too. Not sure about Marion, but I know she came from a large family and I never did know all of their names. I am the oldest of 3 daughters born to Maxiene Rosemunda Ghelfi. She never married and we grew up in Madison Wisconsin. I live in Janesville Wisconsin now (can't afford the taxes in Madison ). So, are we cousins??
Peace out til next time.

Re: Ghelfi's from Genoa,WI
I'm doing research on the Ghelfi family. My husband was a Ghelf, his father Francis dropped the i. I graduated high school at DeSoto with Maxine and knew her sisters and brothers Paul and Robert. I have that there were 14 children in Primo and Martha's family. Albert's wife was Frieda Sutton, born November 2, 1908 and died December 22, 1978. Their daughter Joyce lives in Genoa and is married to ? Johnson, they have a daughter Rae married to Kirk Holiday from DeSoto, a daughter Lynn who was married to a Wopat from Genoa.
Primo and Martha and some of their children are buried in St.Charles Cemetary in Genoa.Primo's parents were J.B.Ghelfi and Lena Fanetti. Martha's parents were Giavanni Vener and Catterina Fanetti. I have the story of Primo building the Catholic Church in DeSoto, he was a stone mason.

Re: Ghelfi's from Genoa,WI
I am Maxiene Rosemunda Ghelfi's oldest daughter. My other email account is Rosemunda@Charter.net. My mother passed away in 1993. I would be very interested to learn more about what life would have been like for her while she was in high school as I never really met any of our Ghelfi relatives (except Grandma Freida in the nursing home a few times).
