There is a tombstone dated 1883 in Gordon Wisconsin for a Maggie Gheen, first wife of William Gheen with an infant grave beside it. William and Stephen resided at Gordon prior to moving to Minnesota. Maggie it appears was a teenage bride who died very young and William was in his early 20's at the time. Gordon was a trading post, Ojibwe village, and Metis settlement at that time known as "Amik." It was named for Antoine and Sarah Gordon who operated the trading post, having come to Amik from La Pointe on Madeline Island. Sarah was the sister of William Gheen's mother, Nancy LaPrairie. Also living near Amik were Sarah and Nancy's sister, Mary Dingley Blackburn, and their mother, Isabella La Prairie. There is only one photograph known to exist of Isabella La Prairie, Grandmother of William Gheen, and it is printed in the book "Mr. Gordon's Neighborhood" which can be purchased at the museum in Gordon.
