I am the granddaughter of John Ira Gharst who came to Oregon from Kansas in the early
1900's. About 30 years ago there was a book about the Garst/Gharst family lineage that traced the family in Kansas up to my great-grandfather. In it was listed a Sam Garst (entertained Kruchev? on a visit to the US) and Ephriam Garst. Does anyone know about this book? I would gladly pay to have it copied.

Bonnie you prob.have your answer by now through the reply you received before. Beware of the many laughable mistakes made in that book. They royally messed up on myJames W. Thomas and Anna Gharst info! Thats to be expected..just don't take anything as gospel, all in all it's a good book.

I went ahead and purchased the book from Barnes Noble. Even tho there are numerous errors -- it still is worthwhile as a family keepsake! Did you go to the Garst/Gharst reunion in Roanoke in July? It was a valuable, emotional experience for me! Now,
I am looking for records (birth, death, etc.) to qualify for DAR. Thanks for your answer.

long long later on reply

just yesterday, i found out that two of my best friends were related to me through the gharsts. one unfortunately passed away in may. she gave me the garst family in america published 1950.
online lists omit my great great grandmother molinda as even existing as one of ephraim's children. they have her listed as: n.e. gharst. i can't edit it.
