Hello, my name is Joe Ganem. I was looking for a relative outside the US. Some of my relatives are Ghanem, Steffan, Musi, Ganem and other various spellings of the name. My original family was from Lebanon. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.I do know I have a number of relatives living in Mexico and South America. Thanks Joe Ganem.

I also have searched for information on Ganem and also Ghosen. Elsie Ghosen was my grandmother, though she died when my daddy was about 12. Her parents came here from Beruit, Lebanon. Elsie was born in OR. Her father returned to Beruit and the family always felt he deserted his family. I am an optimist and tend to think that news was not as widespread in the early 1900's and something may have happened to him. Elsie's mother was Alma Ganem who had been married to Anton Ellis Ghosen.
How have you been doing on your research. I have had no luck finding any records for Lebanon.
Thank you for your response
Pamela

Hi Joe,
i live in Melbourne Australia and i heard from my Granddad that we had some of our family move to North and South America.
i have been building up the family tree and i came across this site and did a search and got your message.
where in USA do you live?
of what i know so far, the GHANEM family origenated from Lebanon, Northern part and had a great deal of trade with Italy and Greece, hence the love to migrate. we do have blood relatives in Greece, Italy, Portugal and spain (tend to go to warmer climate and where they can be into farming and sea trade)
email me with what ever information you have and i'l be more than glad to share the start-up family tree with you to add your self if you can find a connection.
hope to hear from you soon.
PS. the GHANEM family in Australia number 127 (all ages and sex), first one arrived in Perth in 1942 and the big bulk is in Sydney.
REGARDS
A. Ghanem

Hello, certainly good to hear from you. You are correct my family did originate in Lebanon. The name Ghanem was changed to Ganem, as well as several other spellings when people migrated to the US. My grandfather who moved to the US in the late 1800's did live in the northern part of Lebanon in Gabale, as well some other northern cities. I am two generations removed and have always lived in the US. I currently live in Atlanta Georgia.

My daddy's family came from Beruit. Daddy says when he was young he thought he was Syrian but then later it was like Syrian was a dirty word. I have a family tree back to Moses or Mosa Ganem but the family member that gave me this information does not provide very many dates and very few maiden names. I am guessing that Mosa was born sometime between 1840 and 1859. He was married to Esther, their children were:
Luis m. Badia Najam
Abla (Alma) m. Anton Ghosen (my greatgrandparents)
Habib m. Malaki
Fadel m. Samha
Azzie m. Tofi Mourad
Jamille m. Zider Awad

I just recently learned that my greatgrandfather left my greatgrandmother with 7 children. In the early 1920's he returned but needed a U. S. citizen to sponsor him. They took a family vote. The 2 older children voted to let him stay, the 2 younger children voted no, Alba voted no (3 of the children had died between 1915 and 1918) so he couldn't stay. No one knows what happened to him after that.

Could we be connected?

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Pamela Koehn
