My Grandfather was Luther Ghan, his wife was Leona Ghan.
They had nine children: Carl, Leo, Cleo, Marie, Carroll, Billie, Lorene,
Junior and Patsy.
They were from the Ash Grove, Missouri area.
Write me if you think you may be a relative or if you want to know more

My name is Cheryl McGhan and I am researching our family's history. Some where in the early l800s my ancestor was told that he was not Irish enough because he did not have a Mc in front of his name. While a little under the influence he put a Mc in front of his name. His wife and other children kept the Ghan or Gan or Gahan and Tom and his oldest son John became a McGhan. Later, to Lee McGhan and to my father George McGhan and then to me. The McGhans were Catholic. I would love to learn about this family name. I have been to Ireland twice but have not had very good results. There is a family story that they may have escaped Canada and the war and came to the USA. There is a mystery and I would love to unravel it. I would love to hear from you. Cheryl McGhan

Well that does explain why my research has gone nowhere. My husband is the Grandchild of Lee's sister Alma. Alma son Thomas is still alive in a Kansas nursing home. I'll have his son ask about this...

Alma's father was a John Ghan changed to McGhan. Could you tell me more about how Tom is doing? Tom's sister must have been Bea Cassidy and also related to her sister Dolly. Tom is my Dad's (George McGhan's cousin). I came across all the relatives is the Chicago area that are still Ghan. John and Tom went out west with their names changed to McGhan. Please write back. PS

Your husband must be my cousin once removed. I think that he has a sister living in the Sand Lake area of Idaho. Alma was my Dad's Aunt. A year ago the Ghans of Chicago, Illinois contacted me on Jan. 1st. They have pictures, family stories, and a lot of information about the Ghans that were left behind when Tom and John went west. The photos show a striking resemblance to our family. Really nice people. When the Ghan wife died the children were parceled out to relatives and that's when John and Tom went out west with the Mc infront of their name leaving the Illinois folk with the Ghan name. My great, great grandfather Tom McGhan is a mystery...He is also your husband's great, great grandfather too. He loved to deal in real estate. Can you share what you may know? cheryl mcghan
