Henry Gewecke – Services for Henry D. Gewecke, 79, of Prospect Heights and a retired farmer, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Oehler Funeral Home, Lee and Perry streets, Des Plaines. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines. He died Saturday in Lutheran General Hospital. He was a World War I veteran. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia, daughters Linda Saxton and Charlene Eckman; five grandchildren and a brother Theodore Gewecke. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society of Des Plaines Bible Church.

Sylvia Gewecke – A memorial service for Sylvia Gewecke (nee Horn), of Tualatin, Ore., will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, in the chapel at Ridgewood Cemetery, 9900 Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines. Born Dec. 29, 1910, on a farm near Des Plaines, the daughter of Adolph and Amanda Horn, she died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in Tualatin. Mrs. Gewecke and her husband farmed on land that is now part of O'Hare Airport and later on farms near Wood Dale and Woodstock. After their retirement, they lived in Crystal Lake and later in Prospect Heights. After her husband's death, she moved to Tigard, Ore., to be near family. Following a stroke in 1995, Mrs. Gewecke moved to an assisted living facility in Tualatin. During her life, she was a member and very dedicated to church activities while attending St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, Bensenville Bible Church, Crystal Lake Evangelical Free Church, Des Plaines Bible Church and First Baptist Church of Tigard. She also enjoyed gardening, travel, sewing, crochet and time with her family. Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Linda Saxton of Sherwood, Ore., and Charlene Eckman of Yreka, Calif. sisters, Edna Wahl of Mauston, Wis., and Rosine Warnke of Des Plaines; five grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry D. Gewecke in 1976, whom she married Feb. 22, 1941. Friends may visit
