My Geurts line is from Outagamie County, Wisconsin (Little Chute Area). I have not been able to place the Browns Valley Minnesota Line as being related - Although, I feel as if I will someday? My grandmother always said we had relatives in Minnesota.

Lately, I have been finding lots of things relating to the Browns Valley Geurts line from Obits and newspapers from Outagamie County.

I found this little item today:

APPLETON POST CRESCENT February 21, 1924

The Rev, A.A. Vissers was called this week to Browns Valley Minnesota, on account of the serious illness of his sister, Mrs. William Geurts. He will be gone about a week.

My family is from the Browns Valley Minnesota Geurts. My grandmother was the eldest daughter of her father's second marriage, Lucy Geurts. They had a farm in Browns Valley. I know that she had 2 unmarried sisters who stayed on the farm. Lucy Geurts married John VanderWeyst. She died on June 22, 1968 in Petaluma California.

I am very excited to connect with you. The two unmarried aunts were Antonia and Johanna. there was another sister, Annie who had been married to a man with the last name williams, but after he died, Annie moved onto the farm with Johanna and Antonia. My dad called Annie shortie because she was quite short. My dad was Alby. You can see a photo of them and other family members on my website

I am looking for information on the Gertz/Geurts family from Outagamie County, Wisconsin. According to the 1910 Census, Jacob and Elizebeth Gertz lived in Outagamie County with their five children, Jacob, Lizzie, Barbara, Mike and Rose. Mike was my great-grandfather. Any chance you are related to that line?

Hi all,

I have started actively researching my family history. My Grandmother was Lucy Marie Geurts, eldest child of Cornelius Geurts of Browns Valley, Minnesota and Johanna Bos, his second wife.

From my research, it seems that both my dutch grandparents families (Geurts, VanderWeyst) started out in Little Chute, Wisconsin.

Part of the challenge researching Dutch ancestors is the naming conventions - everyone is named after someone. At least 2 of my great-grandfather's brothers had sons named Cornelius.

I am beginning to surmise that Arnold John Geurts originally came to the Little Chute area and that his son Cornelius moved to Browns Valley to homestead there, while much of the family remained behind.

One mystery I am trying to solve is the question of Peter and Mary Geurts. My understanding is that they were the children of Ann Haanen and Cornelius Geurts. Recently, I have seen references to Peter and Mary as children of Peter Geurts, Cornelius's eldest brother and a different Ann Haanen.

Does anyone know the answer to this mystery?

In 1866 Arnoldus Geurts came to the US from North Brabant in the Netherlands with his family. He and his family settled In Little Chute or DePere.

His twin brother apparently emigrated before he did. I am working on those records. I believe Jacob was one of his sons. My great grandfather, Cornelius Geurts was the youngest son. He homesteaded in Browns Valley, Minnesota.

If your grandma is Darlene Brown from Ortonville
You have uncles Eddie and Mike
Aunt Sherry
Then we are blood kin
My father Nathan Geurts (had a cousin Jim Geurts) married Beverly Brown (Darlene's younger sister)
There many of our family buried in Browns valley cemetery
