Hi Janet,

You are not going to believe this but my cousin (who was passing through my state) met me for lunch (today) and handed me an obituary she thought I would be interested in...It was of Peter J. Geurts, from DePere, WI. I have a Geurts line from that area and probably at some point will be able to find how this Geurts fits into to my tree - I haven't been able to do so yet...

Anyway, the genealogy gods, probably want you to have this information and who am I to deny you of it - HAHAHA!! Hope it helps!! Teri

Here Goes:

From the Green Bay Gazette. Sept 6, 1929

Peter J. Geurts, a former alderman, county supervisor, and businessman of De Pere for 38 years, died of heart failure at 3 o'clock this morning in his home, 920 Lewis Street, after an illness of several weeks. He was 73 years old.

The funeral of the well known resident will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning from St. Mary's church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Mr. Geurts was born Oct. 5, 1855, in North Brabant, Holland, and came to America when 10 years of age. He spent 12 years in farming in the town of De Pere, then came to De Pere 38 years ago. He was clerk of the town for several years. In this city he was a carpenter and later the owner of a blacksmith shop and wagonworks. He continued at active work until last June. Mr. Geurts served a short time on the county board and for two years in the city council as a representative of the second ward. He joined St. Joseph's society of St. Mary's church 55 years ago, and up to the time of his death was the only living charter member. He was also a member of the Catholic Knights.

Surviving Mr. Geurts are his wife, six children, Henry, at home, Mrs. Frank Josephs, and Mrs. Benjamin Sanders, West De Pere; Anna, Mae and William at home; one brother, Cornelius Geurts, Browns Valley, Minn., and eight grandchildren.

Prayers will be said at 7:30 o'clock tonight in St. Mary's church for Mr. Geurts by the St. Joseph's society members.

I have just discovered why I found a prayer card for Arnold Geurts among my aunt's things! Elizabeth Roehrig's grandfather had a sister who married John Gilles and settled in Plum City, Wisconsin.

Hi, I don't know if I was suppose to get this email or not. My great great gradfather was Arnold Geurts, but I this there is more than one Arnold. My great great grandfather was married to a Marie Kersten and I also have a relative, which would be Arnold's grandson, who was married to a Margaret Leanna. I don't know if any of this is familiar but let me know. Rose

I'm not really following the Geurts line, but I think these are connected. Run a search for Arnold Geurts on Ancesty.com and look at the one that married Elizabeth Roerig. You'll find the Geurts line traced back in that tree.

I think that is a new entry; I've never seen it before this morning.
