Currently doing research on the Getgood family. Does anyone have any clue how on earth the name came about ? There is no mention of 'Getgood' origins online. I believe every single Getgood can be traced back to a single ancestor, Richard, born in around 1750 in Antrim or Down, Ireland. Unfortunately Their is no records of his wife. He had several children, whose decedents settled in Scotland, Ireland and a few emigrated further afield. But prior to Thomas it's unclear. Variant spellings i've came across are Gategood (In Australia) and Gitgood on an occasion.
Another point, their are several OPR Records for Scotland where a Number of Getgood's are born in Berwick, to a George, Alexander or Patrick Getgood. Possibly the family were originally Scottish and only some records from that time survived.

My maiden name was Getgood. I have family tree starting with James b 1729, who lived outside Belfast. One of his sons was Richard 1761-1828

I am having the same issues getting much info on Gitgood, which is my surname. I am the last in my line. According to my great grandmothers bible, James Getgood changed the spelling to Gitgood. I would love to know where we came from, and how and when we came to America!

What was James DOB, also any others shown in the old bible

Richard's father was James. One of Richard's children was George, born in Belfast and later lived in Lisburn Co Down. I have made a family tree with all the branches and 'twigs'

James Thomas was born to Alexander Getgood 1854, died 1931. My great grandmother Nina Elizabeth Underwood Gitgood wrote a short history about who he worked for, what he did through the years. Alexander is the G E tgood in the family bible from 1830, which is falling to pieces) and Sarah Bagwell. My great grandmother has written that alexander and Sarah came from England.

Alexander Getgood who married Sarah Bagwell was born in Ireland.
I have information on another Alexander Getgood (could be the above Alexander's father) who on 12th April 1808 bought land in Blountville Tennessee from John Tipon.

I am also following Alexander Getgood, born in Ireland and settled in Tennessee. He was born about 1806, and he had a daughter, Sarah Getgood, who later married William Hudgins in Roane County, TN. My Grandmother, who is 94, remembers her great grandmother, Sarah Getgood Hudgins, who died in the 1920s. She is buried in an unmarked grave at Old Beech Cemetery in Shackle Island, Sumner County, Tennessee. I have posted a picture of her on Ancestry. I would love to hear from other Getgood researchers and to connect our Alexander back to Ireland.
