Re: Getchell Indian ancestors
I believe the Native American ancestry traces back to Freelove Dean and her mother Veltina Green. Freelove Dean married Charles Trafton Getchell. I've heard in my search that many were listed as "white" in the census records, so it hinders the search. I haven't pursued searching the Penobscot records that my cousin and uncle have suggested yet. I'll post any new info if I come across any.

Re: Getchell Indian ancestors
Interesting. I have Charlotte Gitchell, a 1/2 Mohawk Indian whose father was Ebenezer Gitchell. It is proven, but don't know if she possibly is related to yours.

Re: Getchell Indian ancestors
The Getchell lines go back to 1600's and in canada also, there are Getchells still in Canada, yes the native lines are very hard to find but I have been researching the Getchells along with the others who track the lines back, the Getchells, Gatchells, Gitchells, came from England in 1600's and were in Mass. before they hit maine. Dorcas Getchell was believed to be Native American, she died mass. wife of Samuel Getchell. I am a Getchell by birth, so i know the lines pretty well. Please feel free to contact me, if you have any questions. I also research the Getchells by the records so i know there real........birth death, cemt. etc. Who was off the line of Elias and Bernice, could you contact me please, I would love to know what you have on your line, and who you are related too. Looking for that line (Elias) for a long time. Thanks.

Re: Getchell Indian ancestors
Thanks for your post. At the present time I am looking for the parents of 3 orphans: Ebenezer,David, & Jesse Getchel/Gitchell. I feel that these parents could possibly link my line to the Maine or Massachusetts line, which presently cannot be done. I do have some proved data: Ebenezer married unknown Mohawk Indian maiden.(my line). He was my maternal great-great-great grandfather., He had 3 children that are known. Charlotte,1/2 Mohawk Indian,David L. and Jesse. Don't know if there are more,or if the girl and 2 brothers had the same mother. However,it is proven that Charlotte was the 1/2 Indian. She married Jacob Bennett. David L. married Elizabeth "Betsy" Bennett,He was my great-great grandfather.Their son,Calvin L. was my great-grandfather. He married Sarah Lake, and their, daughter,Ida May Gitchell, married Emmett Ellsworth Dyer and became the parents of my mother. My data, from David L. Gitchell downward, is proven. Anything you might have on Ebenezer would be appreciated. Don't know where he was born, but it was about 1775.He lived in the New York area of Painted Post and died 1830. To me, a brick wall.

Re: Getchell Indian ancestors
Elias is the father of Bernice Getchell who married Betsey Taylor. The line goes back to Dominicus Getchell who went to Pittsfield Somerset Co. Maine. Elias has other siblings. I can't prove that Elias is son of Dominicus yet, the Cemet. Records etc. Elias also had a daughter Isabelle R. Getchell b. 1817 D. Jan. 29, 1900 Mexico. Elias was in Anson but I find no marriage record on him. Does anyone else have any information on this line?
