Hi, Don, I've got some answers and some questions for you.
1. As to the connection of Henry and Charles to Mace Getchell, I relied on a "OneWorldTree" on Ancestry. I also noted that Charles was born in 1823 and the next child (Mary) was not born until 1831, which may account for Dharles not being listed on some family trees, just because a census record may not have listed him as living at home any more.
2. I just ran into a glitch in the Rebecca Teel line and will get it figured out and get back to you.
3. Any further information about Josephine Wells would be appreciated, particularly about her parents, siblings, and the children she and Wyman had (I show Mable, Grace, and Edna.
4. Franke Mable (or Mable Franke) is listed as the daughter of James Battles and Rebecca Teel and also as the daughter of Josephine Wells and Wyman Getchell. I show her married to Eldie Bushnell McFarland on 26 Oct, 1898. Is this a familiar name to you?
5. Do you have any familiarity with the James Battles (1821-1865) that was married to Rebecca Teel? This may be a result of an error, since their youngest son Edgar fits into the Charles Hazen Getchell line which we have researched.

I have buckets of information that I have to sift through to establish the origin (and accuracy) of, so I'll get back to you when the fog clears. Good luck and thanks, LEN

Ohh..this really looks like a mess.. I have a charles getchell that was married to julia ann battles (b 25 apr 1828) (she is a sister to my gggrandmother elizabeth battles b april 1822)..they had a brother named jim battles (b abt 1821). Julia & Charles were in the Sauk County Wisconsin census in 1860, 1870, & 1880.

2. Jospehine's father was Joseph Wells, have not found her mother yet..she died in montana between 1920 & 1930, I'm hoping to get over there to see a death certificate to see if a mother is listed. Her full siblings were listed in the 1850 census in fort winnebago, columbia county, Wisconsin. They were Sarah A (b abt1834), Henry (b abt 1838), & John S. (B abt 1841). The children u have are the same as i have.
3. Mabel Frankie (b 16 sep 1876) was listed in the 1880 census in sauk wisconsin w/jospehine & wyman as a daughter. She did marry Eldie 26 Oct 1898 in sauk cnty wisconsin. the had 3 children Verga, Dean & Edward.
4. The two james Battles I have were the jim I mentioned aabove, and his father James L. b 23 Aug 1793 in FFarmington, Franklin, Maine, his wife was Abigail Hackett.

Hi, Don...yeah, the word "mess" has occurred to me, too, but what's life without a few unexpected things, anyway!? I'm still figuring but have made some progress.
1. The Charles Getchell you mentioned is the Charles Hazen Getchell I have written of, the first son of Mace Getchell and Lydia Kimball and is also the line from which my wife arose as I earlier mentioned. He did marry Julia Battles, born 25 April of 1828.
2. The fact that Julia is a sister to Elizabeth I knew, but had no idea that it marked the point of connection between the Wells branch and the Getchell branch. That was a very helpful nugget. Thanks.
3.Can you clarify the marriages that resulted in the half- siblings and full-siblings you have referred to?
4. Am I understanding correctly that Josephine Wells was the daughter of Elizabeth Battles and Joseph Wells?
5. I'll keep on keepin' on in pursuit of the perfect understanding of Wyman Getchell, etc., but a special thanks for the Julia Battles--Elizabeth Battles connection. Later, LEN

Hi Len: The part that is still confusing to me is that charles is mace & lydia's child. charles being born in early 1820's..then the next child i have born to them is sewall in 1834, followed by mary in 1835, wyman in 1837, and cordell in 1840. Seems like a big gap, am i missing other children?
2. Elizabeth is not Josephines mother..have not been able to figure out who her mother is yet. Evidently Elizabeth was a second wife for Joseph, they were married 27 June 1850 in Sauk County, Wisconsin.
3. My ggrandfather william wells, was a half brother to Josephine, his parents were Joseph & Elizabeth. A younger brother to william was names James, he married Viola Francisco. I have no other information on the other siblings and any marriages.

Good Morning, Don...The following are the children that I have listed for Mace and Lydia Getchell, who were married 23 March, 1823:

1. Charles Hazen--born 8 December, 1823
2. Henry C.--born "about 1825"--I suspect that he was stillborn, because no other information seems available about him.
3. Henry W--born in 1828, married Julia Hartwell, died 13 Sept, 1862.
4. Mary F.--born 18 October 1831, died in 1896.
5. Sewell P.--born in 1834.
6. Wyman--born 1 September, 1837, died in 1911.
7. Cordelia Raye--born 15 May 1840, died in 1909.
8. Albert C.--born 1 October, 1843.

This is the original information that I compiled by comparing data from Ancestry to the personal recollections of family members. My wife's grandfather corroborated the sequence back, from his father Fred Hazen Getchell, to his father Charles Hazen Getchell, to his father Mace Getchell. The suggested gap between Charles and Mary in some family trees is just based upon incomplete information and reinforces the hesitancy we both have in accepting what someone says without support or validation from at least one other source.

I will meander around online and let you know if I find anything further that is interesting/helpful. Good luck in the search and thanks again. LEN

Hi, Don Is Elizabeth Wheeling, born 1822 in New York of any use to you? Did Joseph Wells and Elizabeth Battles have Sarah A, Henry, John S., and Josephine?...And then did Joseph marry Elizabeth Wheeling and they had William, Andrew, Sarah, Edna, Rosie? (Not certain of all the kids, tho)

I think this is all my mess...I'm not sure there is an elizabeth wheeling..that was some of my initial research back in the 1990's, and i have since found that elizabeth wheeling was actually elizabeth battles. Joseph and elizabeth battles were the parents of william, james, & sarah J. Joseph and the unknown mother had Josephine, Sarah A, Henry & John S. I'm not sure where the line of kids andrew, william, rosie, edna & sarah come into our wells's. I know andrew is related but there is no death certificate for him in montana, and i don't know anything (for sure) about the rest of them.

This now makes a lot more sense...that does fill in that big gap. I happened to do some research last night and found almost all the the mace getchell family in a Cemetary called Walnut Hill in Baraboo Wisconsin!! was a great night!

Great! We've had the opportunity to stop there, since Baraboo is between The Cities and where my wife's folks live. It is really enjoyable "when a plan comes together". Later, LEN
