McLEAN -- James B. Getchel, 81, of McLean was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2005, at his home.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, and McLean American Legion Burger-Benedict Post 573 will conduct military rites.

Interment of cremains will be in Rovey Cemetery, Farmersville.

Mr. Getchel retired from S.J. Groves Construction Company. He currently was a car courier for Bob Dennison Toyota.

He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.

He was born July 20, 1923, at Sperry, Okla., to Orila and Verda Getchel. He married Elma C. Laing in Allentown, Pa., on Feb. 6, 1946. She died Jan. 18, 1990.

He is survived by one daughter, Joan (and Jim) Schroeder of Orlando, Fla.; two sons, William A. (and Kim) Getchel of Atwater and Victor J. (and Kenny) Getchel of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Keith Getchel of Bradford, Pa.

He was a member and past commander of McLean American Legion Burger-Benedict Post 573 and a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree.

Memorial contributions may be made to the McLean Rescue Squad.
