This is the 25th year I’ve tried to solve this problem. I’m turning to the Ancesty community for help.

Michael Garity/Geraghty was born somewhere in Ireland in or about 1811. He married Catherine in Ireland. Catherine was born about 1819. I don’t know their marriage date or location. While in Ireland, they had four sons:
Bernard, born in 1835; Andrew, born in 1839; Francis, born in 1844; and Catherine, born in 1848.

Catherine and the four children emigrated to the United States, leaving Liverpool aboard “The Deborah” and arriving in New York City on 4 Dec 1849. It is thought that Michael came about nine months later, leaving Liverpool aboard the ship, “Chance,” and arriving in New York City on 2 Sep 1850.

Another son, John H. Geraty, was born in New York City in August of 1851.

I haven’t found the parents, Michael and Catherine, and their daughter, Catherine, after that date.

Bernard married Nancy McGhee and served in the Union Army during the Civil War, later settling in Chetopa, Labette, Kansas, where he died 7 Dec 1896. Andrew served in the Union Army, was discharged after being wounded and losing his leg, married Mary Jane Barnhill in Wellston, Jackson, Ohio, and was murdered on 21 Sep 1870 on his way home from picking up his pension check. Francis served in the Union Army, married Ruth (?), moved to Kansas where he was the sheriff of Marshall County, and died on 22 Oct 1881. John married Annie F. Gallaher in New York City, eventually moved to New Jersey, and died sometime after 1910 but before 1920.

I want to find the place of origin in Ireland for this family as well as the names of the parents of Michael and Catherine. I also want to find out what happened to them after the birth of their 5th child in New York City. I will be very grateful for any help with this quarter-of-a-century problem!

Thank you in advance.
