Re: Karl Gepner/ Louisa Knout
I too an looking for information regarding a Charles Franklin Gepner. He was my grandfather and was part indian. The only information that I have is the fact that he died in 1930 and was buried near Aline Oklahoma. I know that he had a son named Melvin and a daughter named Goldie Christine. Goldie was my mother. I have been trying to find out where my grandfather was born and who his parents were.

Re: Karl Gepner/ Louisa Knout
My grandfathers name was Charles Franklin Gepner born Mar 9, 1874 in Missouri. The only information I have been able to locate about his parents are that his father was born in Germany and his mother in Kentucky but I have not been able to locate their names or if my grandfather had any brothers or sisters. However I did discover that my grandfather was married to a Sara J Gepner and had several children before he married my grandmother Pearl Edith Salladay. My grandfather died in Oklahoma in 1930 and my mother was the living child him and my grandmother had. If you have any information about my grandfather I would love to have it. Thank you,

Re: Karl Gepner/ Louisa Knout
I believe I have some information on Karl Gepner. He might be my grandfathers father, that is if he lived in Washington State. Karl Gepner passed on in the early 1970's before I was born. Is this the correct person?

Re: Karl Gepner/ Louisa Knout
Hello --
I just saw this message from 2001! THat's when I did most of my research on this ggg-grandfather of mine (Karl/Louisa). Their son JULIUS -- not Julian -- is my grandfather. Karl was born in 1811 in Prussia; Louisa was born 1812. Julius was born July 22 1845 in Tempelburg (now Czaplinek) Prussia and died Jan. 31 1930 in Clifton, Clay Center, Kansas. Charles was born 1841 and William in 1849.
A biographical history of Clay Center, Kansas said "Came to U.S. in July, 1868 "with father, mother, brothers and sisters" - landed in Quebec, Canada. They came over in a sail ship and on account of the stormy weather and troublesome seas, they were seven weeks at sea. Instead of landing in NYC, they landed in Quebec, Canada. A few days later, they went to Cincinnati, Ohio and in 1873 they went to Clay Center, Kansas. In November, 1873, Karl Gepner received his naturalization papers.
In 1874, Mr. Gepner used his homestead rights and homesteaded 160 acres of land six miles west and one and three-fourth miles north of Clay Center."
MY family passed down a verbal history that Julius came alone to America because he did not want to fight in the army -- and stowed away on a ship. But I can't find any creedence to that story.
That's about all I know about them -- although I talked to a distant cousin in 2001 who told me that the family was Jewish in the 1400s and probably had to convert upon threat of death.

Fascinating! Do you know where Charles was born in France and why they were there? Do you know where Karl and Louisa were born?
I appreciate any information. It's been YEARS since I found any information on the Gepners!

Re: Karl Gepner/ Louisa Knout
Carl and Louisa's information came from a Dr. Vernon Porter that I found on Genforum.com. He said Carl was born in Templeburg, Prussia but nothing on Louisa. My information on Charles Came from his death certificate plus from my grandmother. I didn't find one census that said any place but France but I don't know why.Being their oldest child maybe it was a trip. I guess we will never find out. I found a picture of Charles by accident when helping my mother clean.Oh and I have a wierd tale to tell about him. His second wife was my GGGgrandmother before his marriage to Harriet. My grand mother parents were Alford Truman Mudgett (his parents Schuyler Mudgett and Harriet Frances) and her mother was Cordelia Edganora Gepner (her parents were Charles L. Gepner and Mary Sevilla Edganora (Kuhns) Now if you notice Charles married Schuyler's widow after their spouses death

Re: Karl Gepner/ Louisa Knout
Hi I am Charles L. Gepners GGGRANdaughter who was Charles FRanklin Gepners father. His father was born in France (according to his death certificate and most census) Nov 28 1841 and died june 14 1919 in Redondo Beach, Ca.Do you have the information on Charles Franklin's first wife and children? Her name was Sarah J. Fowler and they married jan 17 1894 in Hill City, Kansas. They must have divorced becuase he married Pearl in the middle 1920's and Melvin is one of the children by his first wife. (Born April 1900) which is about the time Pearl was born.

Re: Karl Gepner/ Louisa Knout
Dr. Vernon Porter is the cousin I spoke to in Nov. 2001! He's the one who told me about the possibility that the Gepners were Jewish long ago!
