Hi everyone, I have just found this wonderful site and am looking forward to meeting as many friends in my family as possible. I would love to find out about anyone who would like to reply. I am 5th generation Australian. My ancestors reached Australia in the 1800's or before. The family seems to have based itself in Broken Hill in New South Wales and one branch went to Sydney and another went to Adelaide in South Australia, which is where I grew up. My father was one of 4 boys most of whom had female prodgeny so that side of the Geoghegan family name is dying out fast.

Look forward to making contact

Hello,
While searching the web for Broken Hill information I was delighted to learn that Geoghegans made it to there. My grandfather came from Castletown Geoghegan in Ireland. There is a family story that one of his brothers or an uncle went to Australia to make his fortune.
My wife and I hope to visit Broken Hill in December. Our daughter Anna lives in Melbourne and suggests that we might like to visit Broken Hill to get close to the outback.
Any insider information would be appreciated.
Regards,
Frank (geogheganfj@gmail.com)

I just leaned a
couple of minutes ago little bit more about my Geoghegan family and am also delighted! My GG Grandmothers name was, Barbara Mally/Malley,Geoghegan, married to Patrick Geoghegan, they lived in the Spiddal area. Just so pleased! I have a second cousin match on Ancestry but they have not checked their matches since Aug. 4th ,2014, I tried to message them but do reply,
