...I am tracing a Geoghegan family that lived in Kingscourt, Co. Cavan in the early decades of the twentieth century. This may mean something to someone out there!!

George Geoghegan was orginally a cobbler and then inherited a pub which he ran until he died in the 1940s.

His son, Daniel Joseph got married in Dublin in 1926 and lived in Whitehall and later in Templeogue. Daughter, May married Englishman Thomas Tackabery August 23, 1938 at St. Teresa's Church, Donore Avenue, near the South Circular Road in Dublin. Either Anna or Agnes married James Mulligan from Main Street, Cootehill, Co. Cavan. Around the wartime, the remainder family left Kingscourt.

Bernard moved to London and worked in the Fire service. In June, 1943, he married Kathleen O’Donnell, a Tipperary native who worked as a nurse in Alexandra Hospital, Clapham. Leo married Catherine Murnin in Co. Down in 1949. He may have been a shop owner in Newry (The Leprechaun). They had a daughter a year after their wedding. Finally, Teresa married Kevin McMorrow of Tullyvin, Cootehill, Co. Cavan in 1943. Like her sister May, she was married at St. Teresa's Church near the South Circular Road in Dublin.

If any of these references ring a bell with you, send me a message!

Hi There,
I inadvertently came across your request for information regarding the Geoghegan family.

I worked as a message boy for Leo Geoghegan delivering groceries, newspapers, and Magazines way back in the late 1940's early 50's their shop was established on Monaghan St, in Newry Co Down. As I remember Leo was a good boss to work for and because he was I decided to reply to your request and give you this small piece of information. Unfortunately I cannot remember a great deal more that I have told you here. However,I do know Leo was well respected in the trade and the shop was popular with patrons. I don't know if this helps you research or not but at least you now know the shop existed and that someone who knew Leo has responded.

I now live in the City of Cairns in Tropical North Queensland Australia, and should you wish to respond to this email please feel free to do so at mccannfw@gmail.com .
Kind regards
Bill McCann
