Re: Geoffroys of Sanilac County, MI
Okay - here goes...... I am taking this straight from the book "Our French Canadian Ancestry in Huron County". by T.W. Denomme. (who is our distant cousin) My mother was (she has passed) Clara LaQue; her mother was Mary -Celima Geffroi and her mother was Celima, who had a brother Remi. But according to this book there were several families of Jeffrey's,Geoffrois' and Geoffroi that intermarried and there are 2 Remi's listed in two different families. And I actually am from both sides in that generation, Celima's side and her husband Louis side as well. Celima's husband, Louis Geoffroi also had a brother Remi. So Celima was my great grandmother who I might have a pic of . I do have a pic of Celima, when she was older, email me with your address. I will get copies of all of the geoffrois/jeffrey pages for you and Scott. It can be confusing at times to read because of all the inter-marriages. There is alot of stuff in this book -- I will see how much it would cost to duplicate it. It is always interesting stuff to read.

Re: Geoffroys of Sanilac County, MI
I found the pics of Celima/Zuma Jeffrey/Geoffrois. I was wrong -- they are not when she was older. I have 2 pics of her wedding to Louis Jeffrey/Geoffrois, also have 2 more pics of them at a later date - but not sure what date. And I also have a pic of her with her mother, Marie Claire Latour-Forget, also not sure what date - but after her wedding for sure. I will get copies made -- the book says she married twice, afer Louis was died - he had a heart attack while killing a pig and then fell and hit a nail at the age of 42. She married Christopher Ayotte on June 24th 1925, she was 65.

Thomas and François Geoffroy
After many years or searching in church and civil records (in Canada and abroad), I do have some first hand information on the Geoffroy family. Thomas Geoffroy (m. Archange Joly) and Francois Geoffroy (m. Marie Angelique Rivet) were brothers. When Thomas was stating that Francois and Marie Angelique were his "parents", he was using the french word "parents" which means "relatives". Both Thomas and Francois were the sons of Jean Francois Nicolas Geoffroy (b. 1745, d. 1810 in Ste Elisabeth (Quebec), m. Amable Laporte in 1770). Jean Francois Nicolas Geoffroy was the son of Nicolas Geoffroy and Marie Griveau-Boisjoli, who was born in 1714 in Arbot (Haute-Marne), France as I discovered while searching the record there last year. In his book, Father J.-Hector Geoffroy was mislead by the misled by the genealogist Tanguay and thought Nicolas came from Dompierre near Langres. In fact, Nicolas was born in the parish of St-Pierre, in the Langres diocese, this parish being in the small village of Arbot. I found the baptism record for Nicolas, as well as the mariage records of his parents, Remy Geoffroy and Nicolle Mercier (m. 1711.11.13 in St-Pierre, Arbot), and of his grand parents (Toussaint Geoffroy m. Claude Villeminot in 1684 - Louis Mercier m. Claude Petit in 1679). The gr. grand father was Joseph Geoffroy m. Remyre Taillandier - both were dead when Toussaint was married).

Re: Geoffroys of Sanilac County, MI
Thomas Geoffroy (descending from Jean Francois Nicolas, Nicolas, Remi, Toussaint, Joseph (the three last being from France)) was married to Archange Joly on October 20, 1826, in Ste Elisabeth (Quebec). Archange was the daugther of Joseph Joly Delbec and Angelique Goulet.

Re: Thomas and François Geoffroy
Just a small correction/clarification. Thomas Geoffroy (m. Archange Joly) was the son of Francois Geoffroy & Marie Angelique/Desanges Rivet) and not his brother. Thomas' brothers were Francois Geoffroy (m. Josephte Cote) & Basile Geoffroy (m. Marie Anne Verette) He also had a sister Lucille Geoffroy (m#1 Joseph Latour dit Forget & m#2 Jean Baptiste Durand). Originally from Ste Elisabeth, Joliette Co., Quebec - all moved to St. Pierre Aux Bouleaux parish, Hay Twp., Huron Co., Ontario. Thomas, his wife & children and his parent(s) moved to Sanilac Co., Michigan, USA around 1856. Thomas' mother is still alive and shows up in the 1860 Census living with her son & family. I not sure when or where his father died but he was living with Thomas' family in 1848 when they first came to Ontario.
