I am looking for my grandmothers relatives. I never met her, and all I have is her name, Lillian Geoffrion. The only other information I have is that she came from either Adams or Pittsfield, Mass; she married Kenneth Case (of CT) in the early 1930's and had 4 children with him. She had another daughter after separating from Kenneth. I believe that she moved to California after divorcing Kenneth and leaving her 4 children with him behind. I've had great success in filling in most of my family tree and would like to complete this side. If you think you can help, please e-mail me. Thanks very much.

A Lillian Geoffrion from Adams, Mass. was born 6 Aug. 1915 to Wilfred Geoffrion and Louise Nimon. Wilfred was the son of Ferdinand G. and Marie Lamoureaux. I can take you back several more generations if you are interested.

That's my grandmother - her mother was Lois Nimmons though, not Louise (I obtained a copy of Lillian's Social Security App to be sure). I'd appreciate any information that you'd be willing to share - I know it would mean a lot to my dad. Thanks very much, Kris

Thanks for the correction of the spelling for Lois Nimmons.

The Geoffrion line continues back as follows:

I. Wilfred Geoffrion, b. 25 May 1894
married Lois Nimmons in Adams, Mass.

II. Ferdinand Geoffrion, b. 1 Dec 1857
married Marie Lamoureux July 1880 in Adams, Mass. Lived at 12 Harmony St.
One of Ferdinand's brothers was chief of the Montréal Fire Department.

III. Louis Geoffrion, b. 11 Jul 1827
married Dorothée Jodoin 7 Feb 1853
Louis died 25 Sep 1908 in Ste-Julie, Québec.
Dorothée died 2 Apr 1913 in Ste-Julie.

IV. Pierre Geoffrion, b. 18 Sep 1792
married Marie Hébert 6 Nov. 1815 in Varennes, across the Saint Lawrence river from Montréal.

V. Joseph Romain Joffrion, b. 1 Dec 1752.
married Josette Quintin, 11 Nov 1776 in Varennes.

VI. Gabriel Geoffrion, b. 14 Feb. 1717 in Varennes. (here we share the same ancestor)
married Anne-Marguerite Fontaine 24 Jul 1741 in Varennes. Gabriel died 5 Oct 1793.

VII. Jean Joffrion, b. 17 Apr 1671.
married Marie Le François 17 Mar 1709 in Varennes. Jean was a voyageur and worked in the area to the north of Lake Michigan. He died 8 Jan 1740 in Varennes.

VIII. Pierre Joffrion, b. around 1634 in Fontenay-le-Comte, France. Came to Montréal about 1665. He married Marie Briau about 1669. He died in Montréal 17 Oct. 1704.

If you are interested in learning more, just let me know. I have about 100 pages of information on 1,700 individuals, mostly Geoffrions.

I would also like to add your data to the Geoffrion genealogy, if you don't mind.

Frank, thanks so much for sharing your information - it's been a real brick wall for me for a long time now.

I don't have too much to add re: Lillian, but I'm happy to share:

Lillian Viola Geoffrion, b. 8/16/15 in Adams, MA; d. 6/22/91 in San Diego, CA - N/K/A Lillian STICKLER - who Mr. Stickler was, I haven't a clue.

Lillian married Kenneth Edwin Case, b. 8/20/1914, d. 4/16/1996, sometime in the mid 1930's, I'd guess, and they settled in West Haven, CT. They had four children: Kenneth, Lester (my dad), Douglas and Lois, all born between 1936 - 1941. Her SS App stated that she worked for New Haven Clock, and the app was dated April, 1942. Sometime after that she and my grandfather separated; she had another child, Sharon, I don't know who the father was. Lillian & Kenneth divorced and she split for CA, leaving her four children behind and basically never saw them again.

I don't know how far back you like info on spouses of Geoffrion's, but Kenneth was the son of Herman Douglas Case and Myra Parker, of Barkhamsted, CT. I have the Case line back to 1635, if you're interested - basically the first immigrant settled in Simsbury, CT and everyone stayed in that area - not too exciting.

Would you have any information on siblings of Lillian? Are there any sites for Geoffrion research or mailing lists to share information? I stumbled upon this message board by accident - I'd been looking on Genforum for a Geoffrion board, but there isn't one.

Anyway, thanks so much for this information - I started researching the Case line for my dad (we didn't know anything past his grandfather when I started) and I had hoped to find some Geoffrion information to try to give him a piece of the mother that he never knew - you've helped a lot and I really appreciate it.

Thanks again,
Kris

Hello Frank,
I have just found this site & was amazed to see that we share the same ancestors! i.e. Pierre Geoffrion & Marie Briau. . Both my parents were from Varennes, I was the first
generation to be born in Montreal. I now live in Toronto. I am just starting to do some research.
I thank you for putting your findings on the net.
Merci!
Lise

Bonsoir Frank,

Since I first found this 'board' I have done no research. I think it would all be easier if I still lived in Montreal!
However last September we went to France for a holiday. Paris & Western France. We spent an afternoon in Fontenay-le-Comte. It is a very pretty city known as 'La Venise Verte'. I asked a few question at the city information office, they directed me to the mairie'. It was deserted on the main floor & I didn't feel like climbing the stairs looking for someone not out for their long lunch. We spent 10 days in La Rochelle (where the ancestors must have sailed from ). It was most enjoyable, ( sunshine the whole time ) & I did wonder why my ancestors had decided to leave this wonderful country , ah, and the food..!?! I don't know if you have seen the place, but if you have I would like to hear.

Lise

Hello Lise,
I have lots of photos that I took recently of Varennes, Verchères that I would be happy to send to you in small batches if your email account can handle it. You could then email them to a photo shop to have prints made or make a CD of them and take them to your photos shop. If any Geoffrions would like any photos please do not hesitate to email me your email address. Genealogist Frank Geoffrion you were corresponding with was just here in Montreal visiting the ancestral sights and we went to Varennes which is when I took the pictures.
