My tree is public, There was a book published in 1967 for Canada's Centenerary done by Mary gillan of Pakenham On.Canada. Her husband Welland was a distant cousin of my Grandfather. It was quite an undertaking for the time when there were no computer's and although there are some mistakes in the family names and references ,she achieved an incredible amount of info. on branches in Ireland,Canada and mentions some of the USA and Australia Gllian's,Geelan's,Gillen's. I do not know if it can still be obtained or not. Many family were doing research on their familys back then and having small books published for the Centennial year. If you can get a hold of a copy it will add some enlightenment possibly for you. I fefinitely feel you are connected to my family back in Ireland in the Leitrim,Longford area.

There is a lease in the National Library of Ireland dated 4 March 1767 of 116 acres in Clongeer, from Nathaniel Clements (Earl of Leitrim) to Robert Johnson, Charles Johnson and Peter Geelan for 3 lives or 15 years.

This is very interesting. Because it is definitely a connection to our familial lines. The Geelans transferred back and forth between Leitrim and Longford for centuries. But it is believed they first settled in Leitrim after being transplanted from another part of Ireland. Most probably anywhere from the late 16th.century to very early 17th.century. The name Johnson has been interconnected by marriages with the Geelans going back in Ireland and continued in Canada.Clongeer is an area mentioned for members of the family. My gr,gr,gr.grandfather was Johnson/Johnston Geelan. His mother was a Johnston or Johnson and related supposedly to a family of Johnson,s prominent at one time in Leitrim/Longford area. His brother Robert Geelan also married a Johnson and emigrated to Canada in 1831.It is believed his father was a Robert Geelan born probably between 1735-1740. His wife we believe was Mary Johnson. They were married circa 1769-1770. Robert supposedly died while some of the children were young. I believe he therefore probably died in the late 1790,s shortly after the birth of his last child. In 1796 a Mary Geelan is listed in the Irish Flax Growers. Could be my ancestress ,now widowed. She was born circa 1749-1750,he would have been at least probably 12-15 years older. The men in the family seemed to be older when they married, and married women quite a lot younger.
