Hi

I am trying to track down my ggrandfather, who died aged 54 in 1911 in Dundee (Scotland). I have been unable to locate a birth certificate in Dundee for him. His father was John Geekie (ship carpenter) and his mother was Jane Strachan. Both pre-deceased him. Any suggestions / information / advice etc welcome

Regards

Hi there,
have you contacted the city archivist in Dundee?
He has a copy of a Geekie family history which may also be of interest.
Good luck

Saw your post of 10 Sept. Will be in Dundee later this month, hoping to track the generation before John Storrier Geekie's grandfather John Geekie m. Helen Mill. Potential parentage could be Alexander Geekie m. Agnes Doig. Any suggestions besides contacting Dundee City Archivist?

Hi you have obviously done a lot of Geekie work. I have not realy began tracing this line of my family. Marjory Geekie (my Great Grandmother) a jute weaver of 46 Logie St Dundee married Peter Braid on 7th June 1907 in Dundee. Her parents were David Geekie and Marjory Geekie nee Davidson. Her witnesses were a Willim Geekie and an Isabella Douig. Have you any links or do you know anyone that has already done some digging on the Geekies.

Hi Joan,
I am also descendeded on my mother's side from John Geekie and Helen Mill through their daughter, Mary Geekie who married John Baxter. Through my Geekie relatives in South Africa I have got back to Alexander Geekie who married Ann Gibb. As yet I have failed to find any evidence of John Geekie and Helen Mill's marriage. Do you know anything? I live near Canberra. Would love to hear from you.
Cheers

Sorry, Jeannie, I can't find their marriage either.
I am tracking the descent of Mary Geekie's brother John, and I had come to the conclusion that their grandparents were Alexander Geekie and Agnes Doig, who were married on 3 Dec 1783 at Kettins. Do the South African relatives have more specific information on this?

Hi Joan
I have been onto my SA contacts. The late John Kinsey Geekie did quite a bit of research on the Geekies and I have copies of the rough family trees he drew up. He clearly traced us back to the father of the Alexander Geekie who married Agnes Doig. This was another Alexander Geekie who married Ann Gibb. On Kinsey's chart he has written Alexander's birth as 1711 and his marriage to Ann Gibb as 1750, but doesn't say where he got these dates from. Above this (ie earlier) he has more names which appear to be siblings for Alexander, and at the side he has listed 3 even earlier Geekies, possibly parents? It's very frustrating/tantalising! Kinsey also spent quite some time tracking down graves, and obviously must have found information which isn't included in online sites.
Re Agnes Doig who married Alexander Geekie in 1783 we can trace that line back further through the wonderful Doig website www.doig.net
This takes our Doig connection right back to Patrick Doig b circa 1630 Nevay Angus died 1680 Nevay Angus married to Isobel Green!
You are welcome to copies of Kinsey's charts but I will need to work on scanning them as they are on large sheets of paper. Once I've done that I'll attach and send them.
Cheers
