Hi. I am a great grandchild of Adam Wesley. Records of name spellings are both Geddie and Gaddie. Most of the family today use Geddie. Would you like to talk more and help with the family tree I have been working on?

Hi again. Sinester was my grandfather. Wesley was my father. I am glad you wrote me. I hope that I can make the reunion. I will be in NC this weekend to visit my mother's family. How far is Greensboro from Jacksonville? You can also reach me on 202-450-9252. I am Charlene Gaddie, and very positive that we are speaking of the same person. My father was named after Wesley, his grandfather.

Hi, William Geddie (1808 - 1851) from Eastover/Geddies Gin area of Cumberland County is buried in the John McPhail Cemetery in Eastover. William Geddie is my great x3 grandfather. My grandmother is a McPhail and I have numerous direct line McPhail ancestors buried in this same cemtery.

I have documented all or most all of the graves with photos on www.findagrave.com. I was recently back in the Eastover/Wade area in late October. I wanted to go back to the McPhail Cemetery because I needed a few more photos. I was lucky enough to go along with a cousin of mine who grew up and still lives in the area. She was aware of headstones in the wooded area beyond the main cemetary. I was able to photograph and document at least 5 new Geddie names and as many McPhail names. Almost all of the stones were in very good condition, most all readable as well as beautiful! My cursory search on Ancestory.com shows that the names I was able to find records on were all African American. The Geddie names I have documented are Edwin Geddie (1885-1918), Mary M Geddie (1870 - 1911), Mary R Geddie (1868 - 1907), Nancy M. Geddie (1858 - 1904), and Simon Geddie (1850 - 1934). If you go to FindAGrave and look under the John McPhail Cemetery in Cumberland County you can see the photos and the related information I posted. If you will go through all of the McPhail names and look for the notes where I put that the gravestone was found in the woods, you will be able to identify the McPhail names that I located in the woods that are likely African American as well. The McPhails and Geddies were closely tied together in that area so you may find some relationships that might be helpful. There were a couple of other headstones in the woods I found that you can look for as well - I remember one name, Solomon as being one. I apologize for not having more information to share - I just posted these photos this past weekend and started doing some basic search of the names. I just haven't had the chance to put my full attention to it yet, but I intend to. Please look these photos over and let me know if you find them helpful and if you have any additional information to share to see if we have a connection!

Best of luck,

Mark Holmes
Orlando, Fl

P.S. I attached Simon Geddie to get you started!

This is great information! I was hoping to get more information about Solomon Geddie born around 1850 and married to Caroline McDonald. I've hit a brick wall with them. They only show up in the 1880 census. It would be great if you had any more information from his gravesite like a date of birth/death, parent's names etc.

Thank you!

I found records indicating that Solomon married Caroline Armstrong (Not sure where McDonald came from), on March 26, 1872. I have not found dates of death's yet, but did find a possible 2nd wife whom he married in 1897. I am still researching though. I hope that you will make it to NC next weekend. I found family I hadnt seen since I was very young, and have connected with the Geddie's in NC since last summer, including my cousin Wint.
