My father's mother was named Bertha Rudolph Geddie, born 4/25/1885 in Leon County, Florida (probably Tallahassee). Her father was William C. Geddie and her great-grandfather was Daniel Geddie. Does anyone have info to offer? Thanks, Jane.

Hi Jane, I hope by now you have found the Geddie Worldpage. I believe you can put in "www.booksphere.com/gedworld/gedtest/.html" and get it. If now you can find it with a search engine looking for "Geddie World Page". Good Luck. You'll find interesting reading in Jack Geddie's book on the Geddie and McPhail Families (it is on the website).

Jane,

My mother is Irene Geddie Fish and she was born in Tallahassee and I'm sure that she's got all of this information on Daniel Geddie from Tallahassee. If you haven't already found out about Daniel I'll be willing to share information with you regarding him.

I am a direct descendent of the Geddie-McPhail Clan
and would be willing to share any information that I have found.
It would seem that the first Geddie's from Scotland settled in the louisiana area and then the of spring moved both east and west
possibly to Florida as well as Texas. Write if you would like to have the info that I have and maybe you have soom that I don't.
Also check out the Geddie World Page. You may have to use a search engine to find it but you should be able to locate it. If not write me and
I will try to find the exact url for it (I lost it in a catastrophic computer crash).

Thank you for responding; yes, I am very interested in knowing more about my grandmother's family.

Grandma's maiden name was Bertha Rudolph Geddie, born 4/24/1885 in Leon County, Florida on Jackson Bluff Road. She died April 29, 1973 in Tallahassee, FLA. Grandma was married twice: first at age 14 or 15 to a man named Fairbanks who died only a year later and left her with an infant son. Second to my Grandfather, William Thomas Richardson. My father's name was Frederick Pierce Richardson. Grandma worked for Florida State University, and they lived down the street from the university on West Jefferson Street in Tallahassee.

She had a brother named Daniel Byron Geddie, born 11/15/1875 in Leon County, FLA and died 3/12/1924 in Miami, FLA. His wife was named Emma Harriett (don't know her maiden name); they had no children as far as I know. He was in the grocery business in Miami. Is buried in Tallahassee.

Their father was William C. Geddie, born 11/1/1846, died 7/18/1936. Her mother was Mary Jane Hale, born 4/24/1852 and died 1/1/1929. They were married in 1874.

Her father's parents were Daniel and Sarah Ann Geddie. These are about all the names and dates that I have.

I have a few very old letters, handwritten and addressed to Mr. Daniel Geddie from two men with whom he must have had business dealings or maybe it was a relative. There are five letters but they are so hard to read; I think that the only information I can glean from them is that each letter is addressed to Daniel Geddie, between 1842 and 1848 and they are all addressed to him in Tallahassee.

I do have a couple of letters, typewritten from a lawyer named H.C. Geddie in Canton, Texas, dated July 1944 to a relative of mine named Laura Richardson. The letters discuss Geddie geneaology. If you are interested, please give me your mailing address and I will xerox a copy of this for you. Evidently Laura was trying to get info from some people named Geddie.

I have seen the Geddie McPhail web site and downloaded almost 100 pages of info from it, but the names and dates that I have don't quite match up with the names and dates in the web site. There are many Daniel Geddies, but none I found whose dates matched my relatives.

I would be delighted to have any information that you might give me. I appreciate your resonding to my message. My e-mail address is bettyb@sonnet.com.
Thank you, Jane Bennett

I believe I have some information for you on your ancestors.
My father, now deceased, Henry L. "Jack" Geddie, published
a book on the Families Geddie-McPhail in the 1960's. The
book has been sold out for many years and relatives are
encouraging me to reprint it.
In the book it states that Daniel Geddie, 1816, N.C.
is the son of James Daniel Geddie and Isabella McPhail, the
first Geddies in the U.S.
Daniel Geddie had several children and it would depend on
which child you desended from in the lineage.
Please contact me if I can be of more help or if you would
be interested in a reprint.
Thanks, Barbara Geddie

Dear Barbara: thank you for your reply. I think that you are right. My great great grandfather's name was Daniel Geddie, I have his date of birth as March 3, 1816, date of death October 3, 1884. He was married to Sara Ann (maiden name unknown to me) who was born Aug 11, 1821 and died Aug 30, 1902.

Also, I have family letters, some are addressed to one of my relatives in Tallahassee named Laura Richardson from a man named Henry C. Geddie, Lawyer, Canton Texas, July 23, 1944. Any connection to you? Your grandfather perhaps? If you are interested in copies, let me know. I would have to mail them to you because I don't have a scanner on my computer. I downloaded a lengthy document from Geddie World web site; is this the same history to which you were referring?

My e-mail address is bettyb@sonnet.com.

Thanks again for your reply. It is amazing to me that there are so many relatives out there!

Sincerely, Jane Bennett

Jane:
Nice to hear from you. I am excited to know you have letters
from my great, great uncle Henry Clay Geddie from East
Texas. He was an attorney and my father spoke often
of him. I would love to have copies of the letters and maybe
include excerpts in an updated version of my father's book
The Geddies-McPhails. How are you related to the Geddie
family? I am very interested in the site you referred me to
Geddie World...but nothing came up. Keep in touch.
My e-mail is barbarageddie@aol.com.
Thanks for writing,
Barbara

I have some information on Daniel Geddie, but I have not been able to find the parents of Sarah Ann Oliver, his wife. Daniel and Sarah were married 3 Nov 1841 in Leon Co., FL. I would like to share information with anyone researching these surnames. Virginia
