I am in search of Minyons. My g grandfather was a Minyon, and we have no idea where he came from in fact we can find no record of him anywhere, and you are the first Minyon I have seen, except for one in Australia. Any information you can share concerning the Minyons would be most appreciated. Thank You.

I married into the Minyons of Pittsburgh, PA. Most common names are Michael, Joseph, Josephine, Mary, Margaret. There are MANY in western Pennsylvania. Due to military service, I have lived in nearly 8 states. There have never been any other Minyons that we found. Good luck. Let me know what you find.

As far as I know it was originally from Italy...spelled kind of like bologna...but pronounce Min-yon-yo. ?? Minyogno?? No one knows exactly. Husbands great grandpa came from Italy...believe Sicily. That is all I know. Check Western PA for the vast majority of them.

I know that the English had a war ship during Eliz.1 reign that was named the Minyon. I have checked a few English records and found some marriage records from the 1700's for people named Minyon. I have not heard that it could be Italian before, that rather surprises me. I have heard also that it was Irish. The early Minyons must have traveled a lot.
Thank you for the info, and I will check out Penn.

Hi, Any luck with finding your Minyon side? The other spellings of the name was "Mignogna".
