my grandfather came from county Tipperary Ireland, the town of Neaghna i believe. His name was Edward Geaney. Interested if anyone out there is a Geaney i could be related to . Geaney is a very uncommon Irish name . I think my family originated in County Cork Ireland.

Hi Janice
Bound to be related somewhere to my husband, Anthony Neeson. His mother, Kathleen Corrigan of Nenagh married Bernard Neeson of Belfast. Her mother, Elizabeth Geaney married James Corrigan (her second marriage). At some point she nursed in America, then returned to Ireland. We have mention of Aunt Winny and Jack Geaney and Aunt Tess Geaney (stepsister of Kathleen, we think) who lived in Dublin. Do any of these names mean anything to you? We are just beginning the Neeson/Geaney/Corrigan history. We are in Adelaide, Australia - where are you? Let's stay in touch.

Hello!
I have been researching my Neeson's genealogy on and off for 20 years.I am descended from a Dr. Horace Neeson fron Randalstown in co. Antrim who practised medicine in the early 1800's. I would like to know where you fit into the Neeson family. Are you any relation to 'Doc' Neeson?
I believe that he comes from South Australia and have failed in my attempts to contact him. He looks VERY similar to my great grandfather and his brother.
Keep in touch if you would like to and exchange info.
Happy Researching! - Yours sincerely - Carlene (From Melbourne)

Hello Jenny and Tony,

I just recently found your reply to me. I will try to get you more information of the Geaney/Corrigan connection from my sister who has a much information about our family then myself.....but We are related to a Mary Jo Corrigan whom I had met when I was young. She moved to and lived in New York. My grandfather Edward Joseph Geaney (Ned) had two brother....he was born in County Cork I believe and lived in Tipperary in the town of Neaghna. He came here at age 16 and settled in New York. I can find out so much more but I know that my sister has actually met some of the direct relatives when she visted Ireland in the '70's. One bit of info. one of my grandfathers brothers died in a car accident as a young man in Ireland...I believe his name was Micheal but not exactly sure. My grandfather's father...married 3 times so my grandfather had many step siblings. I will write back with more exact information soon....please keep in touch. I live in Massachusettes USA , I am 39 and have four children. My nephew is also on these message boards....his name is Edward Geaney....and he is at UCLA in California. There were four generations of Edward Geaney's. Also , one other thing ...when my grandfather came here , Edward Geaney senior, he enlisted in the military and served in WWI. He was part of the "fighting Irish" the 69th infantry and recieved the distinguished service cross. He is mention in a book about the "fighting Irish" called The Father Duffy Story. Just an interesting tidbit of information.. Ok well thankyou for reading my message...e-mail me so I know you recieved it if you can....Sincerely, Janice Geaney Erickson

Hello Jenny and Tony
I have just discovered your message of 2001 concerning the Geaney /corrigan connection of Nenagh. Your message mentions my mother Tessie. She was a step sister of Elizabeth who was a child of my grandfather Micheal`s first marriage.Michael. was married three times, my mother being of the third marriage and nearer in age to Kathleen than to Elizabeth. Kathleen and Bernard I believe stayed with my mother in Dublin in the 60ies when I was away at college. My mother died in 1971 so my family lost it`s connection to the Neesons. I found your message while reading the obituary of Michael Corrigan who would be your husband`s uncle. Mick died last month in Nenagh aged 88. He was the last of Lily(Elizabeth) and Jim Corrigans children. The others were Con, Mary Jo, Eilis, and Kathleen. Micks wife Mary is still alive,as also their children Pat, Michael, Maura and Elizabeth.

I live in semi-retirement in Devon England. it would be nice to maintain contact.

All good wishes

Jim Madden

This is strange because I am David J Geaney, born in 1989 as well. I'm the 8th David Geaney in my family line. My grandfather was the first one to come over from my direct line. He joined the US Air Force and retired as a Command Chief Master Sargeant.
