hi thanks i really dont know that much about my last name but i do know about my father when he was growing up he wanted to find out where his father was and why he left. My mother said when he was about 14 or so he ran away and went to california because thats where he heard his grandmother lived and asked about him and she said she had not heard from him in a couple years and has no idea where he was than he went home and started to get in some trouble so my Nana (grandmother) got him into the army when he was 16

hi jason sorry you dont have much info have you tried steve geaney in n.y. like i said he has lots of info on geaneys . Have you tried other web sites and different spellings of geaney i have tried guiney on this site and had lots of luck as the irish wasnt very well educated in the 1800 and spellings were changed even though same name i have records of my grandfathers all spelt different. My geaneys are from brosna county kerry a small mountain area i dont know much else apart from that most geaneys are from cork and kerry. It would be easier if we wrote direct to each others email addr mine is (leejohnchi'aol.com 0you can mail me anytime and i will help you as much as i can your dads name and date of birth would be a start and your grandfather and put a message out about them. i will let steve know of you if that is ok he will be able to help. take care jason will speak soon.tracy.

My fathers name was James Geaney, born about 1912/13, his parents were Denis Geaney & Nora Geaney (nee Riordan) lived in Carrigeen, Brosna, Co Kerry. He had a cousin Eleanor Geaney, and she lived in Columbus, Ohio, does the above ring any bells. I live in the UK.
