My wife Patricia Geaney was born in 1935 in the lodge at Newcourt Skibbereen, her father was Michael Geaney, mother was Agnes O`Neill of Myross,Co Cork, cousins were Patrick Geaney and his sister Mary Jane , of Lakahane,Baltimore Co Cork. I would love to be able to re-unite my wife with any of her relatives, her elder brother was James(jimmy) Geaney who served in the United States Army and was last heard of living in Second Avenue, San Francisco . All reply`s warmly welcomed and acknowledged.

I think I am distantly related to the Geaneys. One of my greatgrandaunts, either Ellen or Johanna Cadogan from Poulnacallee, not so far from Newcourt, was married to John Geaney from Lackahane in the 1870s. In fact there were two John Geaneys in Lackahane then, one married to Ellen Cadogan and one to Johanna Cadogan. I suspect the two Cadogans may have been sisters but I'm not sure. I used to hear my mother talking about Geaney cousins but I never actually knew them. Hope this helps.

Hi Tim, Really excited to read your info on the Geaneys, you may have seen a message that I placed on the boards sometime ago and is still there,my wife is patricia Geaney, daughter of Michael GEANEY , she was born in the grounds of Newcourt, her father was Farm Manager, the old cottage still stands, and I always paid a visit with our family to Dan Cadogan and his wife and her sister,Dan was a Judge at the local fair`s held in Skibbereen. I have a couple of photo`s of them, sadly they are no longer with us,but their Son John now runs the farm I believe. It would be nice to hear from you, whilst I was not born in Ireland (despite my name!!!) I always hope I can be buried their,my wife is in a Residential Home, and had Parkinson, so any news would cheer her up. WE have quite a bit more information, that might help your enquiry. Kind regards Richard Muir Clany.

Its great to make your acquaintance Richard. When I'm next in Skibbereen I will ask one of my mother's cousins if they remember your wife's family. My mother died some years ago but she always listed Geaneys as relatives.
I knew Dan Cadogan too though not well. He was second cousin to my mother. My mother was born Chrissie Cadogan of Glebe Marsh, which is about a mile from Newcourt, and lived most of her married life nextdoor to Lisheen Catholic Church. If you know more about the Geaneys and their connections I'd be very interested. My email address is tim_o_mahony@hotmail.com.

Hi Tim, It would be great if this does lead to a possible connection, having tried to trace my family back to Ireland,I have got back to 1795, (John Clancy Born Co Cork and his wife Mary Collins) despite that I am still looking for my grandfather`s birth record,he was born in London Shoreditch on either the 19th or 31st of April 1867,(if I dont find him soon I will be asking him myself!!!if I get up there!!) Anyway back to the plot,Tim Geaney, eldest brother to my wife`s father Michael Geaney went out to America and was followed out later by his future wife(whose first name escapes me at present) she was a O` Mahoney
,and lived across the road from the Geaney `s could this person be related to you? .When next you visit Skiberreen,( how I wish I was there today!!)take a trip out to Lisheen Church, there is a font and plaque inside the door, donated by Tim Geaney on one of his visits to his homestead, his name is on the plaque. If you cannot see it,ask, the last time I went the font had been moved into the Vestry.
Tim,it is really exciting,I am nearly 80 ,but intend to find time later this year hopefully to go over, I have so many happy memories of Leap, and our five grown up family love the place, as usual, many of the wonderful characters in and around Leap are no longer with us,but I spend a little time up in the old cemetery at Kilmacabie,a stone`s thow from Leap village, and remember the all. Oh! for the good old days. I would like to hear more from you,it will cheer my wife up ,her condition sadly does not look like she will be able to go back, but I am so pleased that she introduced me to the most wonderful West Coast of Ireland ,in 1962-3 it was sheer magic. I will try and dig out more info,if you think there is a connection.Kindest regards Richard Muir Clancy

my grandmother was gracie Genie. Her father was clement. They lived in Oaklahoma where they had 3 daughterss and 5 sons. I know he had several wives and was very involved with church. I think the spelling should be Gennet--French.
