My Grandmother was Una Gay and I believe she was Jean Gay's grand daughter. I have a picture of a plaque over his grave near Ti Mamou where he is buried saying that he was from Savoie,France. I would love to see any information you might have on his pedigree and descendants.

Dear Matt, I remember hearing of relatives in T-Mamou, but my ancestor Jean Gay is buried in Grand Coteau. Also headstone confirming he was from Savoie, France. However he had a son named Jean Baptiste. Do you know his wife's name and the year of his birth?

Hi Matt...Your Dad was my first cousin. I am Cleveland (Una's younger brother) Gay's daughter.
The first Jean Gay came to Louisiana in 1838 from Haute Savoie France near the Alps. He settled south of Opelousas. He and his wife are buried in Grand Couteau. His son Jean Gay was one of the original settlers of the Petit (Tee) Mamou area. He is the Jean Gay buried in the Gatte Cove cementary in Tee Mamou. His son was Jean Pierre Gay, my and your dad's grandfather. He is buried in the St Jules Cemetary in Tee Mamou.
My daughter is really into our ancestry. She has lots of records on the Gay Family I don't know how to hook you two up.
She and I will be going to France in November to the place where our ancestors came from.
J P Gay(Una and Cleve's father) was married to Casizda Sensat. Videon Jean Sensat came to Louisiana from Beauchalot, Haute Garrone, Midi Pyrenes near the Spanish Border. Don't have the year.

She can reach me directly at mtrump@islc.net. Thanks for the brief history. I met your father many times at my grandmother's house. He was a peaceful soul, just like her.

Sue I'm glad you cleared that up. I wasn't sure who that Jean Gay was. Please contact me at sandfitz@msn.com. I went to Savoie France a few years ago and would love to tell you about it.
I'm from Faustin Gay family. They lived in Lewisburg, La.
